teaching in TurkeyInterest forums / The Long Haul - Living & Working Abroad
I'm looking into teaching English in Turkey for a year. Of course, Istanbul is a top choice, but I was considering Bursa as a smaller but nearby town. I've gotten mixed reviews about Bursa from my preliminary reading, but my one Turkish contact raves about it. Any thoughts?
I don't have anything yet, except my American passport. | 1
Highly unlikely that you will get a working permit, but good luck to you if you do. The employer has to get it on your behalf and its usually a time consuming and expensive task and they have to prove that there is not a Turk who can do the same job. If you get caught without a permit, its instant expulsion and no re entry. Theres been a crack down on this over the last 8 months so take care. The school won't care - there'll be another teacher along the next day. | 2
