Do you know if they need french native teachers? (with university degree)

Hey Lauribus,

I will check with my boss, but the college does not currently offer any degree course in French which would require a dedicated French teacher.

However, that's not to say that if they had the opportunity to take on a French teacher, they wouldn't consider it.

I will put this idea to my boss and see what she says.

cheers

Hi - I'm at Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute with My Little Pony (Hi N), teaching English too.

I know Andrew had problems here (was it his spelling, do you think?), but I can't understand why he's got such a downer on the place.

I've been here one year, just starting my second and I'd encourage anyone to come here. The place is very well run, accomodation is just fine and EVERYONE IS VERY HELPFUL. The Foreign Affairs Office is very professional (Hi Summer), and the PAY IS PUNCTUAL TO THE MINUTE. I haven't had my fare reimbursement yet, but I have no doubts that it will be delivered promptly. Sure it isn't going to be 100% of the fare; (yes Andrew) more like 1/3 to 1/2 BUT IT IS AS STATED IN THE CONTRACT.

Sure it's not a place to come to make a bundle of money, but even so, I can save 50% of my salary without any real strain.

Generally, re teaching in China - I have heard quite a few horror stories about private schools but the government ones (like SXPI) are well organised. I also did a summer school at Wehai (Shandong Province) and that was everything it said it would be.

Look on the bright side - the people are friendly and repay courtsey with courtsey - in many ways I wish people at home were more like the people here!
The students are just great - eager and attentive and helpful with any little errands around town.

DO COME!

The workload is very moderate and you're allowed to pursue your own direction, as long as it meets the students' needs and you can set a reasonable exam on it.

Hello, Can anyone please recommend a teaching job for a Russian lady. She has good experience teaching English, Maths, Science (in English), etc., to children from class 1 to 6. Can teach Russian also. Thanks. RussiaOnline@Gmail.Com

I am very enthusiastic and interested in a program to teach English in China. I am looking for a program that will provide for certain requirements. I am interested in a decent salary for four to six months. Relatively 6000 to 10,000 Yuan a month. I am also hoping for a program that will pay for air fare and provide for housing. I am looking to do this with one other person and to share a place. Please feel free to send any information that you may have regarding programs that meet some if not all of these requirements.

teaching english in china can be a good experience.i spent nearly five years at it, three of them at the same place. the first two schools i worked at were not very good and the second of those tried to cheat all of us out of the final salary at contracts end. none of this nonsense at the last place where i worked for three years.

my advice to anyone willing to teach english in china: be careful in what you choose and always make sure you have enough money in the bank in case things turn out bad and you want to leave the school.

one final note, for yourlittlepony, if shaanxi polytech is that good, are they not spending a bit of their own money to buy an ad on one of the popular esl websites? and if not, why not? i'm always a bit skeptical of foreign teachers trying hard to push a place like this (there could be various reasons for it). i'd never been asked to look out for teachers at the places i worked at, and i wouldnt volunteer to do it either...

rayguns, if you read the SAFEA regulations, you'll find that it says any foreign expert fulfilling a one year contract is to be offered reimbursement on a fully paid economy class round trip air ticket, one way ticket for half a year. if your contract says otherwise (1/3 to 1/2), then, while it may not be illegal, i would argue that the school has taken advantage of you.

Hey Electric Penguin,

Just so you know, SXPI does have adverts on all the major ESL job sites. I just think that sometimes hearing the real deal from the horse's mouth can help potential new teachers make a more informed decision.
