I am currently trying to convince a friend to move to Germany but he is concerned that the tax burden will be too great, we both live in France near Basel where we work so we have the choice to live either side of the border.

So anyway, for a single person earning 50000 euro a year in Switzerland with a mortgage of approximatly 1000 euro per month, what would the total out going's be for taxes and mandatory insurances in Germany?

Thanks in advance for any good guesses!

Lots of German tax experts on income derived in Switzerland, here on the TT. You will no doubt get at least a dozen answers that all agree on exactly what you can expect to pay.

My wife's brother has just moved from Germany to work in Switzerland because the deductions are dramatically less. Just to let you know.
