Hey there,

Am moving to Vienna in about a month and looking to set up there for at least six months. Would greatly appreciate some advice if anyone can help me out...

Having looked online, I see a lot of apartments require "kautions" or deposits of €2000 or more.. Could anyone advise if there is a "subletting" Vienna website that I'm missing? I'd prefer to take over someone's apartment/room than pay these higher Kautions. Or is it completely standard to pay this in Vienna?

Thanks so much for any replies, all and any suggestions greatly appreciated.

:)

hi Jenny,
yes, a deposit is usually the norm, but unless you´re totally trashing a place, you will get it back (some other countries, like Denmark, seem to use the deposit as another months´rent or so). It´s usually 3 months rent.
a good place to look is http://www.bazar.at/wien-anzeigen,fc,9,loc,9 or http://www.jobwohnen.at/index.php?id=172 (it´s the website of the student-union) - both websites are in german only I´m afraid.
craigslist isn´t very popular here, but you might find smth there as well.
good luck & feel free to contact me again!

Hi !

Thanks so much for your reply. I'm going to check out those websites and I already found one or two promising leads on craigs list. I speak German so those websites are fine, looks like there are lots of people looking to share. Thanks again, very much appreciated. :)
