Hi,All,
Here's the scoop. I plan on going to Prague to get my certificate to teach EFL February 2008. I'm aware the Czech Republic is joining the Schengen Zone effective January,2008. My question is this: I plan on visiting friends in Romania a few months before, staying there til school starts for in February. If I plan on visiting countries already belonging in the Schengen zone, how does that affect me in terms of how long I will then be able to stay in the Czech Republic? Suppose I go to Amsterdam for a few weeks, and, come back to Romania. Will that mean I will only have 76 days in the Czech Republic? Thank in advance for any and all responses.

If you understand the Schengen rule of 90 in 180 calendar days, what's to ask? ANY days spent in ANY Schengen country count.
Actually I believe that someone posted online recently the date for the new additions to the Schengen agreement is now 21 December 2007.

Well given your PM to me SHWAAP it appears that although you understand the rule is 90 in 180, you don't understand what that means.
I'm not sure exactly what there is to not understand though. How much simpler than 90 days in any 180 calendar day period can it be? Look at a calendar. Mark the first day you will enter a SCHENGEN country. Now count 180 days from there and mark that day. Between and including those 2 days, you can spend a total of 90 in all the Schengen countries combined.
You should also take care to document when you enter and leave a Schengen country during that time. If stopped, the onus is on YOU to prove you have not over-stayed the 90 days, they do not have to prove you have, you must prove you have not. A case of guilty until you prove your innocence. So get your passport stamped/swiped or save DATED receipts (hotel, restaurant, etc.) that can prove you were in a non-Schengen country.
If you will need more days than the Schengen rule allows, in order to take your EFL course, then you will need to change your plans accordingly or apply for a student visa for the Czech Republic. If you had a student visa you could spend 90 days in Schengen before going to Prague and then spend as long as you want in Prague up to the time allowed in your student visa.
