Hey there everyone,

I am an Australian that is currently living and working as a qualified social worker in the UK.

Despite best intentions and trying to plan, I have just found out that my agency in the UK are unwilling/unable to sponsor me to get another visa to come back here - and I'm not ready to go home yet!!! I'm leaving to go traveling through Eastern Europe for 3 months in one week and then I only have 2 months left on my UK visa - so feeling a little panicked!!!

My question is going to be very broad but any and all suggestions that you could give me would be wonderful!! I am looking to work in any Asian country (particularly India, Nepal etc) or European country doing social work, teaching English, nannying...whatever I need to!!!

My other thought was to go to Canada to work for the ski season there...the only thing is that I need to be able to go to India for March 2012 and then have work off for July and August 2012...ARGH!!!

I don't want to have to pay money (as I wouldn't be able to afford it and I just don't like the idea) to join recruitment agencies or do those 'work abroad' for a fee schemes.

Any information that you could give me would be wonderful but don't worry I am also going to madly search this site and the web for my own information. Hope you are having a sparkly day!

As of April 4 a new set of immigration rules has come into effect.
Check with UKBA's website.
Based on the information that you have provided, it seems that you have no chance of getting a new work visa.
It is now a totally new ball game.

Yeah I know about the visa changes but I do have a specialised degree that meets the shortage list requirements - so if my work could sponsor me according to immigration sigh. Bureaucracies are so complicated though!!!

It sounds like your best bet would be doing what you are qualified for/experienced at and doing now. You say the agency won't/can't sponsor you to 'come back'. Which is it, unwilling or unable?

Frankly, given your conditions re time away in March, July and August I'm guessing it's unwilling. Either you want a full time job or you don't. I wouldn't sponsor you for anything with those time conditions.

Well they are saying that they don't have their certificate of sponsorship current at the present time which means that they would have to pay a lot of money to get it renewed/a new one so its the money thing...

My boss was completely fine with the time off (which I was surprised at too)...

My boss was completely fine with the time off (which I was surprised at too)...

Lightening rarely strikes the same place twice so I expect that it will be very surprising if another employer is willing to give you the flexible time off that you are seeking.

I don't know what area of social work you are practicing but I can imagine what you case load thinks when you disappear for weeks at a time to travel.

I can't imagine too many jobs which are going to permit a new employee to do this. I don't think it matters whether what you want is to teach, do social work, be a nanny, etc. Getting so much flexibility is uncommon in entry level positions.

It is extremely unlikely that anyone will sponsor you for a visa given your time off requirements. Even if you don't tell them in advance, it seem likely that they would not renew your visa or might even fire you. In fact, perhaps despite your boss supposedly being "completely fine" with all this time off, this is the reason that the company is not willing to extend itself to get you another visa.

Im Australian on a working holiday in Canmore (near Banff) in Canada. Im doing housekeeping for a hotel. I know when I was in Canada back in November that all the ski fields were open late November/early December until March/April/May. So that might work for you? There is plenty of work in Banff and Canmore as I went to the job resource centre in Canmore a few days ago and there's heaps of housekeeping and restaurant jobs. I'm sure there will be plenty of work in winter as my supervisor said it gets crazy busy in December. You can check out the Kijiji website for jobs too. I just finished my social work degree in Sydney and plan to find work in that field soon. The pay is much better. Check out Charity Village and SWAT. Good luck.

The first place I thought of - and this depends on your age - is are you eligible for a WHV for Ireland?

Really, it's not all that critical to be eligible for a WHV. It might help but there are ways around it. You just have to get out there and see for yourself what's available.

Instead of talking off the top of your head, why not tell us your experience.

Reality is that visas are important, that people do get black marks on their passports or fined huge amounts, that recommending things that are illegal simply is irresponsible.

I'm here trying to encourage the OP
I'm sure that you have the best intentions... Right. It's just that all 36 of your posts so far have been:
a) abusive to other users
b) full of misinformation
c) utterly useless
d) all of the above.

People come to this forum looking for reliable advice. Your "opinions" and "thoughts" and "know for sures" will only send them on a wild goose chase. Please do all of us a favour and bugger off to the Sesame Street forum and please nice with the other 9 year olds.
