Hello

My partner and I are trying to migrate to Australia!! We are 28. We did a WHV from 2004-05 and toured the whole of oz and loved it so much we want to go back!
We are trying to go under the "skilled – Independent (Migrant) visa (subclass 175)" - A permanent visa for people with skills in demand in the Australian labour market. Applicants are not sponsored and must pass a points test. My blokie is hoping to come under Graphic Pre-Press Trade.

Has anyone done this? Can you please give me your experience of the TRA test, how long did it take? Any information on this will be great!

Can you give me your time frames from when you applied and when it was accepted and when you actually moved?!

Any other help, tips and advice would be gratefully appreciated!!!

I haven't done it, but i'm Australian and we did a HUGE section about Immigration to australia and the relavent tests in geography last year. From what i've been taught, the test is relatively easy. It is also available in multiple languages, etc. A sharp contrast to our anti-immigration policy of a centuary ago where you were given a test in a foreign language.

Anyway, the test should be fairly simple for you.

Unfortunately, i can't really say that "Graphic Pre-Press Tradespeople" are really in demand. I live about 5 minutes out of the local town (Pambula). There are two Graphics places, and one printing place in Pambula - A Town of 4000 people, all which employ graphic pre-press tradespeople. Merimbula, a town about 3-5KM from Pambula of about 5000 people, has another Graphic Design/Print place. There are also three other nearby towns (all within 25km of Pambula), but only one of them (Bega) has a Printing place similar. The total population of the area (residents) is about 20,000.

Unfortunately, as you can see, we have 5 seperate businesses serving a rather niche market in a population of about 20,000 (though this rises to 50,000+ in holiday season - now!).

Graphic Pre-Press Tradespeople are seen as under-qualified Graphic Designers. If your husband has significant graphic design skills, then he would surely be able to find work.

I, even though im only 16, do a fair bit of graphic & web design for local people & businesses, because the people at the printing paces (excel print pambula, excel printing merimbula, carbon copy, and one who's name i forget) aren't very good. They mostly emply Graphic Pre-Press Tradespeople. I did 1 week work experience with Excel Printing Pambula. They aren't very good. Infact i'd say they're crap. The graphic designer there was really good though.

Anyway, my point was, even though I'm 16 and have no official qualifications (being self taught) i can still make a fair bit of money from web & graphic design in my area.

In the city i suppose that Graphic Pre-Press Tradespeople might be more saught after. If they are skilled at their trade. The local people around my area are definately NOT very skilled.
