Dear all,

A few months ago I got fired, found a new job in the mean time (here in Belgium) which is not bad, but definitely not the job of my dreams. Since a few years I am thinking about spending a few years in Latin America because I already had a good working experience there about ten years ago. At that time I was sent to Venezuela by my a european employer.

The current situation is slightly different. I would like to settle in one of Latin America's capitals or bigger cities (Santiago de Chile, Lima, Buenos Aires, DF, Monterrey, Guadalajara, ...) and look after a job for an multinational company where I can use my language skills and former working experiences. I am in my mid-thirties, fluent in Spanish but don't speak it perfect. Moreover, I am aware that wages over there are generally lower than in Europe and that the social security system is very different as well.

Over the last few years I travelled several times in Latin America, so I have an idea of how life is over there.

I would like to hear from people who took the same decision, leaving Europe or North America to look after a new job in Latin America. It would also be great receiving opinions about my plans from latinamerican natives how they see my plans, e.g. how easy or difficult it is to get a working permission, how open employers are towards non-native applicants, in general how feasible my "project" is. Any information in English and Spanish is very welcome !

Many thanks,

Johan
