Hi,

I'm currently living in the UK and plan to train to be a teacher in a few years time. Before that I want to teach English abroad for a while and I've heard of companies who offer a TEFL qualification abroad and a job placement at the end of it. I'd quite like to work in Hong Kong and once I'm done, spend some time travelling around Asia.

Can anybody reccommend the best way to do this? Should I take a CELTA (or similar) qualification at home and apply for jobs in Hong Kong, or can anyone reccommend a good company who offer studying for the qualification in Hong Kong (or London) with a job afterwards? I'd ideally like to spend between 9 and 12 months teaching.

Any advice would be great!

Thanks

Most English teaching gigs in HK require you to be a registered teacher in your home country; with 2-5 years teaching experience. CELTA is not really enough. There is no shortage of trained Chinese English teachers to run the cram schools etc.

Don't fork over your money just because they promise to find you a job. I did that and the school (which was horrible) never did find me or several of the other students a job.

Your best option is to study in the UK first with either a CELTA course or Cert.Tesol course.
One of the best places to study Tefl courses is St Giles International
