I recently was denied access to the Philippines because I did not have an onward ticket,. I had not read that this was a requirement, and had never encountered the problem before in traveling through a number of countries. I finally had to buy a ticket to Brunei, but the people here told me I could not enter Brunei without an onward ticket. When I told them I would travel overland to Malaysia, they said it was impossible to enter. I plan to go from Brunei to Malaysia, then Indonesia and Singapore. Has anyone encountered this difficulty? I am a U.S. citizen, and have covered over 70 countries without this difficulty, and am wondering how to best deal with it. Thanks for any information.

Impossible to travel overland to Malaysia or impossible to enter Brunei?
To enter Brunei buy a cheap onward ticket and use it or buy a full fare ticket and refund it. airasia.com has very reasonable flights.
Some countries say it's a requirement and don't strictly enforce it, others do. As shown by your experience in the Phillippines, they don't care if you are American or have traveled to 70 different countries. Did you put a post on SE Asia Islands? People who have traveled there recently could give you the best advice.

Why would you post this on the Living and Working abroad branch? Post it in SEA where it belongs.

Thanks for the information. I did also post this on the southeastAsia thread, but hoped to get some ideas here from people who had traveled around the world. I think the categories have changed and I should have posted it on the Gap YearAround the World site, but I now have a lot of good suggestions. Thanks again.
Number two, why waste your time making a negative response?

How does telling you that you posted on the wrong branch make it a negative response? I gave you advice on where it should be posted. You made a mistake, I told you how to correct it, there's nothing negative in that.
A lot of people don't like being told they got something wrong. You would have done better to simply not remark on what I wrote and paid more attention next time to what branches you were posting on. Instead you decided to suggest I wrote something negative. Well that's twice you've got it wrong now.
