Hello. I am looking for help in finding universities and colleges around the world (in non-English-speaking locales, NOT UK, US, Canada, etc.) that operate, for a lack of a better term, in English. For instance, institutions like American University in Cairo or Beirut. Others???

So why am I asking? I work in higher education and frankly want to get a job in 2008 overseas in a non-English-speaking country in the field of higher education, but I only speak Spanish (advanced, but not fluent) and a little French and thus believe I am relegated to an English-speaking institution. I know teaching English, specifically at a university or college, is an option that I am willing to do, but lack credentials. However, I do have a master's degree (I studied student development and management of institutions of higher education...in other words, I liked uni so much I never want to leave).

So at this point, I am just exploring my options and seeing what is out there. Any help would be very much appreciated it. And no need to lecture, please.

Cheers.

What kind of position are you looking for? Where are you from?

There are HR positions in varies universities (English medium) in the ME (esp UAE-Qatar) available. There's the AU in Sharjah (UAE), George Mason in RAK (UAE). Check out Dave's ESL Cafe, Chronicle of Higher Education website, TESOL.org website.

I know of the American University of Central Asia, in Kyrgyzstan; the American University of Jenin, in Palestine; the American University of Bulgaria; Central European University, in Budapest; and the American University of Afghanistan. There are also universities in Turkey in which the language of instruction is English. A quick google search for American university in turned up a number of other options.

In addition to the sites recommended by #1, you might also check Higher Education Jobs.

If you don't have formal English teaching qualification (TESOL/TEFL, CELTA) you might have a hard time getting a serious teaching job at a serious university.

One more possibility, if you are an American citizen, and can propose a serious research project, would be to apply for a Fullbright scholarship.

There are some in Japan too like Temple U. But I have heard that increasingly you really need a PhD to teach here.

If it's only English teaching then this is usually not the case but these gigs are considered lucrative and are very difficult to come by unless you live and work here and are connected with the scene.

The Universtiy of the South Pacific in Fiji, with branches in other Pacific countries. The teaching medium (and Pacific lingua franca ) is English. You might even get an admin job there, though there is a need for English tutoring for many of the students.

Ask me about the Island Builders of the Pacific.

Thanks for the responses so far. I really appreciate. I should note that I am more interested in the administrative side - the student affairs/services side (advising, programming, etc.). I am from the United States and this area of higher education is quite extensive here (nearly all universities have staff in areas such as residence life, academic advising, admissions, multicultural affairs, international services, and on and on and on). I understand that employment in this sector outside the United States is not as extensive, but I am willing to explore and see what is out there. I am also willing to teach English and do secondary projects (perhaps organize student groups, conduct advising, etc.). I apologize for not stating where I was from or what exactly higher education means to me (not just academic teaching). Thank you again! AND any additional information would be great! Cheers!

Maastricht University in the Netherlands. Most of their courses are in English. Also, the majority of the students are German as well as a large amount of foreign exchange students, so English is the main communicative language.
