Hey everyone!

I've been living in Bangkok for the last two months with my partner who was transferred here for work. I've been looking for work myself but have yet to find that "perfect job". I'd really like to do English editing for a business (as opposed to teaching English) but can't seem to tap into the market. Does anyone have any experience getting this type of work in non-English speaking countries?

Thanks!

I am curious what type of work your partner does that he/she was transferred to BKK. I have lived in Thailand before and loved it and have decided to try to go back to school to get a degree in something that will allow me to get a job with a company/firm in Thailand. I have just begun to look into what the major options are as far as employers. Obviously there are government positions within the embassies, and there are NGO's and various other organizations of that nature, but I am really trying to find out what "western" companies/firms/corporations do a lot of business in Thailand and, therefore, routinely post their personnel there. I know that this does absolutely nothing to answer your question, but if you wouldn't mind, I would really be interested in hearing more about what he/she does.

thanks

He works for a medium size Canadian high-tech company. They provide software to large telecommunications firms. Because they work primarily with clients in SE Asia they have a couple of people posted here. I don't know that the Western software industry frequently sends people here, but you could look at firms which have clients here. The big ones like Microsoft, IBM, etc. have offices here but I'd think they try to hire locally first. Also, I think the only way you'll get a firm to send you here is after you put some time in with them. My BF has been with that company for 5 years.

You could look into the hospitality industry...hotel management or something like that. I've seen some opportunities for foreigners in that industry.

I'm in marketing and have had absolutely no luck in finding work in my field here...so that's something to avoid ;)

Good luck!
