Hello, I have a question... I'm german and I'm planning to go to Peru soon, I really don't know when I return to Europe, so I want to buy a One Way Ticket to Lima. I've heard that you might have problems entering Peru if you only have a One way ticket? Will they control if you have a return ticket?
I lived before two years in Peru, but I had a ticket with open return (which was very cheap some years ago, now this kind of ticket is too expensive). I never stayed ilegally in Peru, because I crossed the frontier every 3 months.
I hope someone can help me out.
Thanks very much,
Stephanie

Nowadays, often there is not much price difference between a one-way ticket and round-trip ticket with a 1-3 month return. Check out the prices for the two, and if there isn't a big difference, get the round trip ticket and just forget the return portion once you have landed in Peru. Or try getting a one-way ticket to Peru, with onward flight to a neighboring country, but this is not likely to be cheap. Some countries are sticklers about having an onward flight....as well as airlines, which are hesitant to let you board with just a one-way ticket because they are financially responsible for your return if you are not let in and subject to a stiff fine.

In regards to Peru and most Latin American countries, it is not the country's Immigration officials that will be strict IT WILL BE THE AIRLINE YOU'RE FLYING who may deny you boarding to even get there. Call the airline you're flying to get their policy on one-ways into Peru. Some airlines are sticklers and others aren't and still others it may depend on the ticket/check-in agent in front of you. If you are flying a strict airline, you can get away with a copy of an electronic "reservation" say on another airline or from a travel agent. You can also buy a 100% fully refundable return ticket if forced to and refund it after you get there.
