There are heaps of travel related website that base their content on free user generated material, but are there also some that actually pays for text/pictures (articles, guides, whatever)?
And how much can you expect?

Well, unfortunately the situation is a bit like 'if you have to ask, then it's definitely no'. There are sites that pay but these sites are the professional ones that pick and keep their own writers around.
That said, I found that I could sometimes sell travel related content to other publications, if I tried to avoid calling them travel pieces. A paying site/magazine on, say, topics geared towards an audience of home builders may be interested in an article on home building in an exotic location.
A boating magazine may be interested in articles on boats in far-flung places.
Good luck!
The problem seems to be that if you travel to typical places (France, Mexico, Thailand....) there are a million other people trying to submit photos and article. Competition is high and you generally need to be talented or at the very least persistent. It seems everyone who owns a camera calls themselves a "photographer" these days.
Alternatively, if you travel to less popular places that most people have never heard of, publishing companies don't want your submissions as they aren't going to sell magazines.

Here are a few websites that do pay:
Globe Spots pays 5-10 USD for just a few lines and one good picture.
Go Nomad pays 25 USD for a whole article with good pictures.
Matador pays 25 USD for a whole article.
Nomadic Matt used to buy, but doesn't do it at the moment.
