Fluffy! I love 99.999% of your posts and I have a lot to learn from you, BUT even I would hesitate to head to Sudan!

I spent five years in a conservative part of Saudi Arabia and I am familiar with conservative Islam - Sudan is not a place I would want to take my wife - nor if I was single, where I would want to go. At least not the northern part of Sudan . . .

Isn't all of Saudi conservative? :) It's all a matter of perspective i guess. Khartoum is soooooo far removed from Dafur which everyone associates Sudan with. I'd have no problem living in Sudan, but this comes from a guy who is currently living in Yemen.

Okay then! I confess - if you are living comfortably in Yemen you are MUCH TOUGHER guy than I am! Sheesh! Put things in perspective - not everyone is as adaptable as you are. I find Yemen fascinating, but would never want to live there. More power to you!

I had a friend teaching English in the oil fields there for a while - VERY nice wage packet. US$60k per year - no taxes - six weeks on, six weeks off with free airfare, accommodation and everything in the interim. Just a bit too primitive for me. Though the architecture is extraordinarily beautiful.

I've met many people on the road who regularily teach in South Korea and have great things to say about it.High standard of living, good conditions, nice people etc. Also many options in Thailand away from Bangkok, down south near the beaches, islands and palm trees.. a big demand there for people wishing to work in the tourist industry and north towards and inc. Chiang Mai cooler in the hills and less populated but beautiful country. Both easy for long stay visas.
