Hi
Can anyone recommend some decent, cheap long stay travel insurance that I can take out while already abroad? Most companies don't make it clear whether they will cover you once you've already started your trip, until you try to buy it and you have to confirm that you are currently in your home country. This has caught me out before, I missed the question and ended up buying 2 months worth of insurance which I found out wasn't valid when I tried to make a claim!

I've looked at World Nomads but they are crazily expensive, and inexplicably lump SE Asia into the same insurance category as the USA!

I don't need a policy with all the bells and whistles, I just want to be sure that if I have a bad accident or something that my parents don't have to sell their house to pay my medical bills!

Any help much appreciated!

Jenny

There are a few companies that can offer that, but it depends on your country of residence.

Check out this website for an overview.

Sorry, my country of residence is the UK.

Actually I've now found a company that has what I wanted - if anyone else is interested it's Downunder. You have to fill in a special form if you're out of your home country and it costs slightly more, but it seems like a good deal anyway.

Thanks to those who tried to help!

World Wide Insure, based in UK. As far as I can recall you need to be an European resident.
