hey guys,

i'm going to be graduating in may with a bachelors in nursing (RN). I really really want to live abroad for a couple of years. Does anyone know about the nursing job market abroad in English speaking countries? There's a nursing shortage in the US and it'll be pretty easy for me to find a job, but I'm not sure if it's the case in England or Australia. Also if anyone knows anything about licensing and general salaries (I don't think England or Australia have as high pay, just as long as i can decently live off of it).

Thanks!!

With regards to Australia, you're in luck as nurses are in high demand. See this website on details for applying for a visa: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/medical-practitioners/nurses.htm

There are certain education standards required, check out the site below, you may need to go through a skills assessment.

There is also a nurses shortage in the UK see http://www.workpermit.com/uk/work_permit/occupations.htm

I wouldn't say the pay is high in Australia or UK, but I don't know what the average salary is in the US. However, you should be able to live off your earnings.

Isaf is right re the nursing shortage in Australia. And yes, the pay isn't brilliant, but the annual leave provisions will be much much higher than you're used to in the US. If you do land a full-time position, expect 4 weeks paid leave per year minumum. Great if you want to spend time trekking Australia while you work.

Oh yes, good point fernygirl, I forgot about the annual leave thing.

OP - you will find a similar thing with the UK - more annual leave than you're used to.
