"Actually they finally did contact me back about two jobs but not in my line of work, ha!"

LOL, nothing unrealistic about your expectations at all custardapple.

Some of you guys must be reading a different post from the one I'm reading here.

" I am happy to temp or take contract work in receptionist/PA/secretarial roles (which I have experience in) while I look for other positions, my background is in online content/fashion/writing which I would prefer to focus on in the long term."

This person isn't saying she just wants a job while on a WHV. This person is saying she wants work in her specific field and just how 'long term' fits into the WHV equation is unclear. There is no 'long term' when on a WHV.

What is clear, is that the OP has had jobs and quit. The OP has been offered jobs but declined them because they were, 'not in my line of work'.

I think this OP is not about a WHV as it is intended, but rather about moving to Europe on a more permanent basis and hoping to use a WHV as a means to do so.

That's true, I guess bar worker or toilet cleaner are the only jobs I should be applying for, measly WHV recipient that I am. I must've forgot to read that stipulation in the visa requirements.

Thank you for your contributions, they're so helpful.

BTW, if my background is in online content, and someone offered me a job teaching physics - according to your logic, I should take it? No no, please, keep making assumptions!

Well if you are skilled enough you can reapply for a highly skilled migrants visa/tier one applicant visa/whatever they call it.

But if your key concern is, essentially, “who do I live while trying to get my dream job” then yes, temp work is easy to find. Be willing to work and you won’t have a problem.

Thanks sneaker_fish, that's what I wanted to know.

It's such a disappointment when someone attempts to argue something but hasn't the ability to do so. It makes me feel like I'm beating up a little kid instead of a worthy opponent.

Pathetic comments like, "I guess bar worker or toilet cleaner are the only jobs I should be applying for, measly WHV recipient that I am." are hardly worth replying to.

Where exactly did I say anything about what kinds of jobs you should apply for? Where did I say anything about WHV recipients?

Then you come back to add, "if my background is in online content, and someone offered me a job teaching physics - according to your logic, I should take it?"

You would have done better to have just quit after your first pathetic attempt at argument. Your example is laughable, someone offering a physics teaching job to somone with a background in online content. Yeah, right, happens every day, very logical. Couldn't you at least come up with a believable example?

What MY logic does say in regard to a WHV worker is that if you are offered a job you can do that is legal, pays the bills and allows you to live in and experience the country you have come to (that is the purpose of a WHV), then common sense would say you should take the job at least temporarily. Not come on here and say you "find it hard to get work."
