Greetings:

I live in Saudi Arabia and due to limited access to certain American and British programming here; I have been forced to download Torrents to get to see the programs I want to see (e.g., Try to watch “The Waltons" in the Kingdom!). The program I use is called “uTorrent 2.0.4” However, the download speed is so slow that is almost painful. I understand a little of the technology involved so this might be expected. However, I was wondering if there are any common ways of (or programs for) speeding up the process of downloading torrents. Any advice given is greatly appreciated.

The problem is seeding. Basically, you are downloading a little bit of the show from many different users. If there are no users on-line, you can't download. Being in the Middle East, there is far fewer seeds at normal times when we would be downloading, thus the slow speed.

There are couple things to try. At the bottom of the U-Torrent box you'll see 3 numbers. One is how much you're downloading, one is how much you're uploading and the other is the ratio of uploading to downloading. If you adjust you're download number to "Unlimited" and the upload number to something small, it might speed things up. But then it becomes a moral issue as you're taking but not giving, thus becoming a "leech"
