Hi all, sorry if this question has been answered before but I've been going through the other posts in the forum and am still super confused!

I am an Aussie, who will be travelling in Europe before flying direct from UK to Canada. I will be staying in Canada for around 6 months on the WHP. After the 6 months, I plan on travelling through USA for a little bit before flying home from LA.

I am confused as to whether I need the B2 Visa to get into the US, as I will have been in Canada for over 90 days. I won't be transiting through the US on my way to Canada, as the flight is direct.

I have seen some mention of an I-94W. Can I use this to enter the US from Canada, or do I need to apply for the B2 Visa?

I will have a RTW flight which shows my flight home from the US.

Sorry again, it just seems to be a very unclear and confusing process, with no real answer apart from that it depends on the customs officer you get. I'm thinking maybe I should just get the B2 visa to be on the safe side? I just don't want to go through the hassle for nothing.

Sorry I don't have an answer either dearest, I'm going to watch for answers because I'm in a similar position. I'm in the UK and want know how to get around the visa issue to travel around America for longer than the 6 months extended visa agrees to. I'm half Brazilian so can skip off to Brazil for a while and then try returning .. ?

There are two ways to visit the US: The Visa Waiver Program (for which you apply on-line using the ESTA form and get a piece of paper called the I-94W, or the full B1/2 tourism visa.

The "clock" on the Visa Waiver Program 90 day stay in the US starts when you enter the US. If you don't transit the US in traveling from UK to Canada, then your allowable 90 days in the US would start when you first visit the US after your Canadian WHP.

If you think you might be visiting the US while you are in Canada, it might be better just to get the B1/2 visa.

For bamberina: You can extend a B1/2 visa while in the US, but you must apply at an IHS office, pay a fee, and provide documentation of the reason you need and extra six months, and show the way in which you will be able to pay for it. You must also apply early, it can take a couple of months if your application is complicated.
