Air Asia - Your experience?

My wife and I flew Air Asia last June (Singapore -> Yogjakarta). The flight and arrived on-time, even a few min early. As long as you don't have to clear customs that should be enough time. I'm pretty sure we didn't need to go through customs when we switched planes in KL for another trip.

I've never flown them, but would be cautious about such a short time between flights. As the flights are booked as separate segments and are not guaranteed to connect, if your first flight is delayed for any reason they are unlikely to honour the second booking if you miss the flight (unless they've changed things recently).

I'm a pretty cautious traveller, time-wise, and that timeframe really doesn't allow for any delay at your departure point, so I'd be uncomfortable with that amount of time between the flights.

But that might just be me. ;-)

Yeah, very good point. I think I were just hoping to get all my travelling done to BKK all in one go!

I think I am going to stay the night in KL and get the early flight to BKK.

I've flown with AirAsia on a number of occasions. Some have been on time others have been far from it. They usually send you a SMS if they are running very late.

I would agree that the times you said don't leave much time for delays. Best bet would be to allow more time.

By the way the AirAsia terminal is about an hour from the centre of K.L. and there isn't a lot at the airport apart from McD's and moneychangers and coffee shop. Once you check in there is only a little convenience store and maybe a coffee shop can't quite remember. Makes for a very boring time if there are delays :(

Would you recommened staying in KL for a night then? I think this sounds like the best idea now. Any place in KL that you would recommend?

I usually stay in the China Town area of K,L. Plenty of cheap accommodation there and plenty of nice food.

Sorry I can't remember the name of the place I stayed in been 3 years since I was there.

Unless you are in a rush to get to Bangkok why don't you stay for a day and have a look around K.L. plenty of things to do. Otherwise just make sure you factor in the travelling time when travelling back to the airport as the roads can get quite packed in K.L at certain times of the day.

I certainly wouldn't recommend sitting around the AirAsia airport for the night would be extremely dull. It's bad enough doing that at big International airports.

I flew Air Asia from BKK - Phuket and back...very nice, clean, professional and on time. BKK was not that difficult to navigate.

That won't usually be a problem. I've flown AirAsia on a few times, never been late.

I've flown AirAsia many times over the years. Mostly on time, but you can't be for sure. Late arrivals happen all the time, no matter the carrier.

I was in Penang 2 years ago and AA completely cancelled our flight. I did not have a local cell phone, and didn't check email the day before....my bad. So we ended up at the airport with 10 hours till the next flight...which they had us booked on.

You might buy a ticket for the next day but try to get on that late flight anyway...the late flights are usually not full.
