Greetings:

I am Canadian but I live and work in Saudi Arabia. Every year, when I return to Canada in the summer and rent a car, I have to pay for collusion insurance out of own pocket because I don't have a credit card that gives this option. My credit card is from a British company because I can't get a Canadian credit card company to issue me one. Does anyone know any way around this? I simply want a credit card that gives the cardholder collusion insurance on rented cars. Any information given is greatly appreciated.

Collusion - A secret agreement between two or more parties for a fraudulent, illegal, or deceitful purpose.

Collision - The act or process of colliding; a crash or conflict.

I don't understand why your bank in the UK won't issue a credit card that offers the option for collision insurance. Have you asked about this benefit? Usually it is the premium cards, ie the gold or platinum level cards that offer this option. Rarely do the free or lowest tier cards offer this.

It shouldn't matter where the card is issued. I have a gold level MasterCard issued from Citibank in the US and have used the collision insurance feature overseas on a number of occasions.

Problem I would foresee is that these cards cost more per year and may cost more than the collision insurance.

Agreed with everbrite - my gold car has comprehensive travel insurance - which includes collision protection - but only if you pay all the insurances that the rental car company suggests you take - usually at least doubling the cost of the hire. So generally I drive carefully and live with the $2000 excess. Most travel insurances work the same way from what I've seen
