Hello

I'm translating someone's research proposal into Engslish and am constantly tormented by doubts about appropriate wordings. Could I have some comments from those in the know?

Firstly, is it called a research proposal or a study proposal, or either? It's in the field of literature/gender studies.
What is the proper heading for the main body of the text? In the original Hebrew it says "Corpus". I haven't seen it used elsewhere.

And I would really appreciate general feedback on these sample…

My German friend always signs off her emails with "nice greets". Anyone know why?

Yes, I could go to GS. But you folks have a sense of humor, right?

I bought some beef tongues from the supermarket today. So, how do you cook it?

If you put the 2 threads together (that are crossed) and counted the replies, there would be less then if you only post it on one site. Although, that's not always the case.

I (vaguely) know someone named Wojciech, from Poland. He introduces himself as Voy-tek, but I have heard other Eastern Europeans (although not Poles) pronounce his name Voy-check.

Of course if Wojciech pronounces it Voytek, then that's what it is, but a quick Google search indicates that it might be a politeness issue. That Voycheck might be official and Voytek familial.

Does anyone know?

Does this sound awkward to anyone else?

Family member is traveling in South America. He's learning Spanish, and is doing fairly well in a short period of time (he's been studying 2 years). He sent me an email, and while I'm fluent in Spanish, and can understand what he's trying to say, this was pretty awkward:

"Muchas gracias. Y una pregunta vos tenes las recetas por tamales, tacos ( por hacer las tortillas )? y mucho mas que no puedo recordar por ahora."

??

In today's paper, in the People (i.e. gossip) section, there is a brief item about a concert cancelled by Beyoncé. An organizer said, "The postponement is solely the decision of the artiste"...

Artiste? Is this used? Sounds like a word used in a movie to be sarcastic about someone with artistic pretentions. Would any entertainer describe him or herself as an "artiste"?
