Hello,

How would i say 'good enough' in Spanish as in 'because my Spanish is good enough i will enter into the advanced course straight away' (which is actually what i want to say)? Also, how would i say 'too' as in 'the book is too hard for me to read'?

Cheers

Patrick

Did you see Avatar yet? is not a construction you hear in the UK very often. How common is it in the States? How is it viewed by educated speakers?

Cats can retract their claws. Is there an antonym for retract other than extend? Thanks

Do people still use 'too'? Hasn't it been largely replaced by 'as well'? I'm particularly interested in British English but would be interested to hear what other people feel about it, er, too.

I am not sure about spelling of the second name, (i think i was told it is spelt with two p's...), but where would a person called "Raoul-Uppal" be from (he looks Maghrebian) and what does the name "Uppal" mean?

A couple of questions for any Italian experts around here:

(i) Can anyone explain to me why 'non' is always used in this construction? To take a random example I pulled off the internet: 'Cuocere i pomodori a parte per 15-20 minuti o finché non diventano asciutti' - what purpose does 'non' serve here, if 'finché' basically means 'until'?

(ii) Is this construction ever used with the future rather than the subjunctive, e.g.: 'finche le luci non saranno spente'?

Many thanks in advance - this has…

My 11-year old niece has been visiting Vietnam and spending holidays there since she was quite small.
My brother (her father) once saved the life of a Vietnamese family's son using advanced paramedic skills and so has many friends there whom they visit. Neither my brother or his daughter speak Vietnamese altho. over time my niece has picked up various words, short phrases, and can count fluently to one hundred.

They both live in Wollongong, Illawarra, NSW (Australia) and my brother was looking…

Before I go make fun of this to the LP guidebooks folks, I thought I'd see if I am missing something.

I just got the LP California Road Trips book. One trip, music themed, included a stop at a guitar shop, Truetone Music.
>The shop is lined with brightly polished vintage guitars that will bring out the gearhead in anyone. The staff has hocked merchandise to both Tom Petty and his right-hand man, Mike Campbell, as well as Don Henley and Prince.

I think they mean "hawked" as in "to sell goods…

My written arabic tends to look a little as if a spider has wandered through an ink blot - no definition between the thick and thin parts of each letter. I have tried using soft pencil and utilising the method I learned many years ago with shorthand of using thick and thin (light and dark) and that has helped, but writing in pencil seems a bit childish for a woman of my age. It is not practical or possible for me to use an Arabic keyboard at this stage.

Do young learners in the Arabic…
