is it correct to say....The University of Californian team soon got over their disappointment though, to work with Michael Ohl from Berlin’s Natural History Museum to classify their monstrous find.

Next week, me and the kids are going to visit couchsurfing friends of ours in Spain. Now as a gift I was thinking about bringing a board game I made myself, but my game has cards (all sorts of wacky tasks like 'Stand on your head' etcetera) in Dutch and in English, but they would have to be translated into Spanish.

Is there somebody here who would want to translate about 80 lines of text for me? The list is here , it's just the text on the cards (after 'what cards are there'), not all the…

I'd like to create a map illustrating the most useful languages for traveling around the world.

My idea is to fill in each country with layers of color indicating the percentage of people who speak certain languages.

Does anyone know of a program that will do that?

It should be able to lay 3 patterns on top of each other to blend in the same country.

My Spanish speaking mates are all surprised when I tell them I can't watch films or television programmes in Spanish owing to the fact I don't understand anything despite the fact that I speak Spanish to a reasonably good level (I'm currently working in a Spanish speaking country). I also find that if people start speaking to me whilst I'm not expecting it then I don't get what they say. I am working here until…

Is the French word 'fuit' pronounced anything like 'phooey'?

If so, could it be where phooey comes from? A slightly long shot but the sort of thing brought home by WWI soldiers. Phooey would have to have had a slightly different meaning than it does, but broadly in the same family of meanings.

"Walkfatty sandwich." Someone from Italy, trying to describe a huge, high calorie sandwich that is being eaten by an obese person while walking down the street. It's from a post on the US Branch, linking to an utterly charming blog. The blogger's English is not the greatest, but his enthusiasm and ebullience make up for any faults. A trip to the US

"Columibphobe." From a mystery short story I was reading today. It is a bit of a satire & puts ludicrously erudite language into the mouths of…
