i wonder if you guys could help me out please. i am looking for words to describe the humour, or rather, what the following actors say and how they think:

Phoebe from sitcom Friends
and
Rose from sitcom Golden Girls

(i find their humour differs from the humour of the other actors in those sitcoms).

thank you.

Characters like Rose and Phoebe could be described as "ditzy" or "scatterbrained." The style of humor could be described as based on non sequiturs, which is in turn a form of surreal or absurdist humor.

thank you, that does help a lot.

the only word i could think of to describe their humour is 'infantile', but perhaps that is not the correct word to describe it.

thanks a lot for those descriptions.

in english would you say 'someone is ditzy' or 'someone has a ditzy sense of humour'?

would the following adjectives be appropriate descriptions?

  • weird
  • daft

I as an American would refer to someone as ditzy. In as much as a ditzy person doesn't usually view his/her actions as such, I wouldn't refer to someone as having a ditzy sense of humor. The humor is a result of the non conventional actions of the ditzy person.

'Weird' for me is synonymous with 'strange', with a negative connotation I guess.. so I wouldn't really use it as it would sound like it's just strange to you and you don't get it.

'Daft' just means thick or stupid (quite specifically British English too), at least that's how I've always heard it being used.

If it's really a description for Phoebe's actions/sense of humour you're looking for, I would go for ditzy or my previous suggestions (zany or kooky).

Sitcoms are a waste of your time and brainless anyway.
Try to learn something. Try reading.

Put your mind to work. Not to sleep.
Avoid serebral wanking.
