Kape

Just out of curiosity, is maailmanmatti used interchangably?

My grandfather was known as a maailmanmatti even though his name wasn't matti.

There's a nice word from old Turkish (presumably it was used in Farsi first): seyyah-ı âlem

Yeah, you can use that interchangably.

Wereldreiziger (world traveller) in Dutch, but "globetrotter" (pronounced as if it were of Dutch origin) is used too.

In Danish they just use "globetrotter"now. An older Danish word is "jordomrejser", which can mean "globetrotter" or just "round the world trip"

#11 & #13: Funny, I've never ever heard maailmanmatti. Is it common?

Another word, or rather, the literal translation for globetrotter in Finnish would be pallontallaaja.
