Hey all,
Long time since my last visit here, and now I realized that maybe - hopefully - someone here can help me with one issue.
Every friday we have a phone call meeting. The conversation is held in English, all the people on the line are sitting in the UK except of me, some of the participants are native Brits and some (including me) are not, all speak good English, about 6-7 people.
The conversation is managed by 2 British.
When the main presentor speaks - I can understand about 10% of what he says. Absolutely nothing.
It sound like 'mef%$^$%^$ dss$$#$#@ dmnfd#!! ?'
Then if there are few seconds of silence, I understand if was meant for me and as 'Sorry, can you repeat ?'. second, third time - and then I understand better, altough not perfect.
In other cases - I just say 'yes' and the conversation goes on.
When the second guy talks - I understand perfect, he pronounces every word perfetly, and the same with the rest of the people on the line.
Since most of the conversation (1 hour) is managed by the non-understandable guy, it's important for me to solve tis issue.
I talked to him and asked him if he can help me by emphasizing words, talk slower. Nothing changed.
I also talked to my boss (he is also on the line) to translate for me - but it's not feasible.
I worked for few years in different English speaking countries and it's the first time to have such a deep gap of understanding.
Can anyone have some suggestions ? This guy is originally from Coventry and someone told me it's a typical accent thing.
I would apricate any help on that since it's going to last for the whole year like that...
Thanx,
O.
