I love it. Maybe they got the idea from the Congolese.

Off topic, but I thought it was funny:
How can something be off-topic in this thread?
Racist Park sign

One for liiiiisa, whom shilgia and I have tried to coax over here. Snoop Dogg from the soundtrack fo a forthcoming Bollywood movie.
That's not a joke, that's factual.

Hey Vinny! (& hi et al!) Thank you! Ha, looks like Snoop is following in the footsteps of Jay-Z, who did a remix on the Panjabi MC cd... I know I sound all knowledgeable-like, but this is the limit of my conversational resources vis-a-vis bhangra-hip-hop.
One of my editorial assistants just saw Snoop the other day... I'll have to ask her if he had a Bollywood revue.
Sorry I've been neglecting this thread! I've been neglecting TT in general due to office type issues + an unhealthy obsession with flickr of late.

I've been a little busy and a little cuckoo lately. Sis was in the hospital but she's out now and going back to work soon.
Here's a favorite pop-bhangra song:
Kaala sha kaala
Enjoy.

I saw an article about Snoop Dogg in the Indian musical the other day in the Int'l Herald Tribune. (It must have been near the crossword puzzle for me to read it. Anyway, Snoop Dogg sounds totally illiterate in English -- his few quoted words were completely ungrammatical.) Whoever made the movie is trying to introduce hip-hop to India.

Good luck, them.
To change the subject, we're experiencing above average temperatures again, unfortunately. We're trying to nurse our frail air conditioning system through the summer, delaying its replacement until the autumn. So we inside we try to keep the temperature at 80 degrees (27 C). We won't open up the blinds until the outside temperature falls below 85 (29.5), making for a dark home experience. Under these circumstances our only relief is days with lower humidity and/or westerly breezes.
Soon, soon, it will be cooler.

It's supposed to be 35°C here today, but there is a wind blowing. After the heat wave of 2003, some people started to install air-conditioning, but I still don't know anyone who has it. Mind you, it's a wind from the south, so it doesn't bring much relief, even though it does move the air around. Locals complain that it's a humid wind, but I tell them they have no idea what humidity is like.
So I close the shutters while the sun shines on whichever side of the house is concerned, but once the house starts to heat up, it's quite uncomfortable.

The fan for our central air conditioning/heating certainly works, so once we get home we turn the fan on. That makes the temperature a little more bearable. In past years the a/c would be set for 78-80 during the day and 76-78 in the evenings and overnight. We are putting up with current conditions, and hoping for below-average temperatures (average highs for July are 86-89/30-31.5). I think we have more than a week to wait...
We had a heat wave earlier this month that coincided with the worst of the wildfires. Nothing like a temperature of 105F/40C coupled with air that is so smoky it makes your eyes sting & throat burn. My Nutrax's health problems mean his body does a poor job of thermoregulation (how's that for a word?) He needs it to be about 75/24 year round. We replaced an old & creaky heater/air conditioner just as the heat wave started. The old one was on constantly. The new one, being much more efficient, cycles on & off a lot. The latest utility bill showed we used 40% less electricity than in the same period last year. That is welcome, because with his needs, our utility bills are pretty high.
Usually, it cools down at night here and you can open windows to cool a house down. A lot of people supplement A/C with whole house fans. These sit on a roof and suck air out of the house & attic. You open a few windows & cool air comes in to replace the hot air removed from the house. So, as soon as the outside temp reaches a certain level, off goes the A/C and on goes the fan.
At least, as the cliché goes, it's a dry heat.
