following the squeaky wheel idea, we have a saying in Argentina (it's mentioned in the tango "Cambalache") that goes: "El que no llora, no mama" meaning: "he who don't cry, don't get to suckle".

Loscar: Thanks for that explanation. I have "Cambalache" sung by Tita Merello, and although I understood the meaning of the words, I didn't really understand the sense of the expression.

There is no equivalent expression in Thai/Lao because it does not apply in their culture. The squeaky wheel just loses face ;-)

A complainer is referred to (in Thai) as "kii-bone" and is looked down upon.

Getting angry doesn't get you anywhere in SEA, although it does happen often enough.
