In a book I'm reading it says: "In the following excerpts SAS, an anglicised version of Arabic is uised. Other English-speakers prefer PBUH -"Peace be upon him". Still others use a rosette form of Arabic letters or an asterisk."
What is "a rosette form of arabnic letters"?

In case random readers are wondering, PBUH is short for Peace and blessings upon him; SAS is short for the Arabic version: salla Allahu 'alaihi wa sallam. I think I've usually seen in shortened to SAW. It's what Muslims say after mentioning Muhammad.

I think the rosette in the first link just says Muhammad (many times), no? But I've seen English texts where there's just a small rosette, maybe the width of an em-dash, with the whole phrase. Like this but round, not pear-shaped.

Well, I said it was "something like" it, which I think is true. But anyway, I have trouble reading some of those intricate designs and I can't be sure of everything that is and isn't in there.
