Hi guys!
I'm asking on behalf of a student who's searching their family tree.

Her great-grandmothers (b1848) maiden name is Maskamm - this was on her son's birth certificate.

As far as they are aware she was born in Wales.

As she couldn't write (signature was marked with an 'x'), it's unsure whether or not it's the correct spelling, as she may have verbally pronounced it, and they wrote down what they heard (phonetically).

If anyone has any ideas what language it may be, or sounds similar too, that would be a great help!

Thanks!

http://www.ancestry.com/facts/Maskam-genealogy-uk.ashx

says that there were a couple of Maskam families in Lincolnshire in 1891.

www great thanks!

The alternate spelling will make a differenxce too, and fits the possible circumstance.
