Mein Ergebnis:

Für das Beantworten von 17 Fragen haben Sie 35 Versuche benötigt.

Das war noch nicht so wirklich überzeugend... das können Sie doch sicher besser! Probieren Sie es gleich nochmal!

;p

1

I needed 33 attempts. A monkey would only need 42.5.... I wonder how the German native speakers will get on.

2

Phew, that was hard. It took me 24 attempts to get all 17 questions right, and I'm a native speaker :-( I had most problems with the English loan words, but also with the correct spelling of a couple of German ones.

3

Prima - Sie haben das Quiz erfolgreich abgeschlossen!

Für das Beantworten von 17 Fragen haben Sie 38 Versuche benötigt.

4

Für das Beantworten von 17 Fragen haben Sie 29 Versuche benötigt.

It took several attempts to get E-Mail right. (Among other things.) :(

5

All things considered, 29 is very good, shilgia. That's probably better than the majority of native German speakers would score. Email (and the plural of Quiz) brought me to my knees too.

6

Thanks, istvan! I think knowing Dutch helps with this kind of thing.
(And yes, the plural of Quiz killed me, too.)

7

Those two, plus the Italian coffee I missed entirely. I did get several correct on the first shot or my score would have been worse.

8

+Für das Beantworten von 17 Fragen haben Sie 28 Versuche benötigt.
Nicht schlecht - Sie haben ziemlich viel gewusst! Das können Sie aber sicher noch besser, oder?+

I knew the E-Mail, but had problems with Branntwein and Cappuccino. Then again, I don't drink alcohol and coffee.

My result for the second try:
Prima - Sie haben das Quiz erfolgreich abgeschlossen!

Für das Beantworten von 17 Fragen haben Sie 18 Versuche benötigt.

Der Experte meint dazu:

Klasse - wie es scheint, sind Sie ein echter Experte auf dem Gebiet! So schnell macht Ihnen in Sachen Kompetenz keiner etwas vor!

10

Wow, well done, Kano_Jim!! I dare not to try it the second time, not at 4 am anyway....;p

Btw, the OP has a grammartical error, it should be Testen Sie Ihr Wissen, my mistake....

11

Thanks, Orangutan.
>it should be Testen Sie Ihr Wissen, my mistake..

BTW, is it true that the polite form usage is declining in Deutschland?

12

Gern geschehen.

BTW, is it true that the polite form usage is declining in Deutschland?

I very much doubt so, though I am not a native speaker and the last time I was in Germany was Dec. 2009. ;) People have told me that in big cities like Berlin, they are more open to using the Du form.

I wonder how is it in Austria or German-speaking part of Switzerland, is it in decline etc?

Bist Du wieder zurueck in Asien? Darum ist es 4 Uhr bei Dir!

14

30 attempts.

It seemed that most of the time when I didn't know something, the right answer was my last guess.

shilgia, I thought it was the plural of Café that would catch up Netherlandophones. Anglophones are unlikely to put a comma in there.

15

Vinny, it's true that Dutch speakers are likely to put an apostrophe in there (as are German speakers, probably), but it's wrong in Dutch also: the apostrophe serves to preserve the long vowel, but in the case of Café, the accent renders that unnecessary. (Mama's, baby's, mini's, but: cafés, soufflés.)

30 is good for a non-Germanophone. (OK, semi-Germanophone, if English is semi-Germanic.)

16

#14, richtig!! ;)

17

Y'know what's annoying, shilgia? What's annoying is that I will probably remember that even though café ends in a long vowel, in Dutch you don't have an apostrophe in the plural because the accent will still show that the vowel is long.

It's just barely possible that someday someone will ask here on SiT why there is no apostrophe in Dutch cafés or soufflés, and that I'll be able to answer and will dance my little I-got-a-Dutch-question-right jig but the odds against it are pretty high. And it's even more unlikely I'll ever actually use that piece of knowledge in the non-virtual world.

But thanks.

I am a native speaker - of English. I learned German in high school and university in the US 35 years ago and spent 3 years working in Munich some 25 years ago. So not too bad, I think. (That Bran-whatever-wein one killed me. It took me four tries!)

19

28 Versuche ist ein sehr gutes Ergebnis, Hank.
The word spellings are what got me, too.
Try it again and see how much you remember from the first time.

20

On my second attempt I needed 22 tries. I missed the E-Mail one, and that subjunctive one took me 4 guesses! If I had to do it a third time now, I think I'd get them all right the first time.

21

Почему все было написано на немецком здесь?

I feel so stupid!

22

22 attempts, native speaker. I got E-Mail wrong a couple of times and the plural of Quiz. I'm going to argue with the Duden on this one, though, in saying that the word doesn't really have plural, but that you would usually say something like "several quiz shows" (in case of TV quizzes). In colloquial German you would say "Quizze". I don't think I'd ever use "Quiz" with a clear plural meaning, as in "Ich habe zwei verschiedene Quiz gelöst".
