the other day i was looking for things to buy on ebay.de (germany) and kame akross a few 'irregularities', which i am going to mention to you.
there are a number of sellers offering 'kranberries'. so i kontakted some of them, asking what kranberry meant in german, and all got back to me saying something along the lines of they didn't know, but had been asked numerous times before.
then there are other sellers offering 'sneaker'. so i asked if the price was for a pair of them or for a single shoe, and the response i got was yes, the auktion is for 'a pair of sneaker', rather than sneakers. then i found some sellers with plimsoles, but they kalled them sneaker.
the worst i kould find was one seller offering a kardigan, but called it a hoodie (it was in fakt a kardigan with no hood at all).
they also sell G-Star trousers with 'tapered fit', but don't know what tapered means.
to me it seems that many germans are hell bent on using english, but have not really got a klue how the language is used korrectly, not to mention understand the meaning of the words.
i know we've had a similar thread here before, how english is entering other languages and how trendy and superior people feel using english ekspressions, but if people haven't got a klue what they are saying, it bekomes a bit silly. rant over. thanks.
