The more I think about it, the more it looks like a case of "we need to improve our demographics. Let's add the kind of social networking features that appeal to the Facebook generation. Our loyal fans already love us and these new features will attract new fans." So they looked at what those Facebookers enjoy and made a laundry list.

What wasn't considered enough was "will any of the new features disrupt TT or alienate our current base?" It's very speculative, but I can see some young programmer saying "I love this feature I am adding, therefore everyone will."

"It would help, while posting a reply, to be able to scroll upward to refer back to text in the thread, but I guess testing my memory might be a good thing...."

Apparently they've just added that too - at least I am typing this in a "quick reply" box with the previous 8 posts above it. Now if we could just have "show all" back it would be perfect.

Although I share the concern that LP have rather lost sight of the Thorntree's existing users while chasing the Bebo generation (is that the generation before or after Facebook? I can never remember), they do seem to have put in a lot of work in the last couple of weeks restoring some of our much-loved features.

¡Hola John!

Qué bueno que ya podemos comunicarnos en español sin tener que usar esos complicados códigos para hacer los acentos y las eñes.

We are getting back there little by little, and maybe we'll be playing UBI at the Spelling Bee's thread some day soom.

¡Hola, Loscar!

Oh, no! The Spelling Bee thread was what made me dislike the old "Today" page. I posted on that thread only once or twice, but because I was in spelling bees as a child I thought I had had enough of them. Despite never going back to the thread, it appeared at the top of my "Today" listing for a very long time, because others kept posting there.

Iguazú falls, the Galerías Pacífico, Córdoba... How nice to see them properly again!

...and, of course, how nice to be able to distinguish año from ano.

#23 Alan, what is the "bebo" generation? Here in France (at least in Paris) there are "bobos" -- bourgeois bohémiens, but I have never heard of bebos.

Am I getting old, or do others find annoying this current tendency to apply labels to everybody, to put them into little boxes: generation X or Y, bobos, bebos, etc?
