Have a Gujarati colleague who has lost a close relative. I am writing a card to him but have discarded the third draft - all sounds like generic platitudes. Is their any popular condolence saying in Gujarati?

Don't worry if it's all generic platitudes. A note with nothing but generic platitudes is far better than no note at all. We all fal back on generic platitudes in these circumstances. And I don't think the fact that one of the generic platitudes is in Gujarati will make much difference.
Having said that, you might have better luck posting on the India branch.
