Applauds Myanmar Hurrah

I love puns so much that I sent ten carefully crafted puns to my brother (who was depressed) hoping that at least one of them would make him laugh.
Unfortunately, no pun in ten did.

(I'll get me coat).

and what would "one for the ages" mean? i tried to google but didn't find out

I must admit that the meaning isn't obvious to me either. I don't remember hearing it used in Ireland or Britain. From the context it seems to refer to something that is so important/exciting/unusual that it will still be remembered ages from now. Perhaps an American could confirm. I wonder if the phrase refers to some specific original quotation or proverb?

One for the ages : a momentous event that will not be forgotten. It will be remembered for ages. It is also used for literature or music to indicate that you think the work will endure. It's also used I used Google Books to see how old the idiom might be. I found a 1914 use. It's part of a very flowery description of the trial of Jesu before Pilate. "The judgment about to be entered—farce though it would be—was to be one for the ages. "

A Sports Illustrated column hoped that the Xavier University Musketeers would win a basketball game with a dazzling display of teamwork. Then the announcer could say "That's all for one and one for the ages."
