I always admired some (engineering) drafting "hands" (while others were marginal at best). Now with computerized CAD drafting machines, these skilled "hands" are being lost. Much hand-written (slow crafted) correspondence from previous generations are similarly exquisite, now also being lost -- except as a hobby-skill. I think it simply takes care and attention -- and practice.

And I'm very pleased that basically everyone agreed that the original theory was a load of old tosh.
And I particularly agree with VVT - I work for a mapping company and I can confirm that the ability to hand-draft even them simplest sketches or annotation is a disappearing art - not only is it no longer taught, but even for people that spent years drafting by hand - their skills are diminishing through lack of use.
