Just heard the American boat which beat the NZ boat had one (1) American crewman from a crew of about 10-12. Are there any rules governing "imports"?. The rest of the crew were Australian, NZ, British and I think I heard a Pole. Do you just put up the money, get the boat registered as US and then buy the best crew from around the world? Sounds a little like English soccer teams with some of the team being foreign imports

Yes, that sums it up. It's the nationality of the "yacht club" (which, these days, is a fig leaf for whichever billionaire or conglomerate is financing the effort) that matters, not of the crew.
