What interesting replies and gut feelings this thread has come up with.
Just shows what different people have experienced and how they feel on the subject.
Nowt like a good debate. Shame we can't all sit round a big table, few beers, sort this one out and the rest of the world. Wouldn't it be easy??

Last year August 8, 2016 I was traveling to see my fiancé who is stationed in the US military at Mildenhall in the U.K. At the time we had just moved from Hawaii departing ways me to Ohio him to England. We booked a ticket for me to see him that had a connecting flight in Dublin. The ticket was booked for 6 months due to lack of research, I was not planning on staying that long but we thought we could always just change the return date.

Boarder control in Dublin stopped me, questioned me, and…

Get a UK visa and then fly into Dublin and then to LGW where there won't be a passport check. Still might be tripped up somewhere though.

#3 I would doubt the profile is correct because it states UK citizen which the OP clearly is not!
With your refusal on record you are highly unlikely to get in unless the immigration officer is completely asleep on the job, since you have been refused you may find it better to get a visa and you had better have a good explanation ready for what you did when you apply for a visa, telling them you do not know why you lied is going to sound like another lie and you had also better have a good…

Thanks for your advice voyager.
I have just done what you have suggested and contacted my local MP. I am not sure whether it will be of much help but I do not think that I have anything to lose and it felt good to get it off my chest.

Chas.

Hope you're still listening. I was just responding to your post regarding entry into the UK. Although recently I experienced the same scenario with me also being denied access to visit my boyfriend who is a resident of the UK, I was also denied by Heathrow agency staff and therefore was sent on a return flight back to the United States. Actually I was escorted back onto the plane.

I, like yourself, was totally distraught about the whole situation and the way I was treated. As was my British…

I met my boyfriend a year and a half ago while studying abroad, I think came back to the UK and we spent 6/7 months in a long distance relationship. In January this year he came to the UK on a student visa which ran out in June at which point he went back to the US to apply for a summer postgraduate visa which would allow him to work here during the summer (before he begins the second year of his course in September). Despite having proof from well known companies of an internship, proof of…

I had planned a trip to backpack through Europe and was met by an angry immigration officer in Heathrow going onto a connecting flight to Dublin. It all ended with the decision that I was denied entry because they did not think I had enough money to support myself however they would not let me give them the information to let them know that I was telling the truth. I was detained and sent to a detention centre and am not out my airfare and a lot of planning and money. I am a Canadian passport…

The UK rule is not recent, it goes back decades at least.

You need to demonstrate some funds and not give the impression you might work. While GBP50 per person per day would be sufficient the uniform dudes will not necessarily be looking for that but rather enough so you can feed and accommodate yourself in some way. Since you've got somewhere to stay I don't think they'll be afraid of you working.

Crossing any border anywhere is some form of roll of the dice but I think the odds are highly in…
