At a family function today, a young nephew recounted his month in America – which he had completed only ten days ago.

Four young people (18-19) bought a car in New Hampshire – a 2003 SUV for $US2400. They had an address because they knew a young Aussie who had been working at a summer camp there. So no issue with the purchase.

They drove from New Hampshire to LA via NYC, DC, New Orleans, Houston, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Death Valley, and Yosemite NP. They drove it hard at times, with the most being 2200 km (1370 miles) in one drive-day – four drivers.

They mostly used Airbnb, because a lot of hostels wouldn’t accept them, being all under 21. All of their Airbnb experiences were good, and fairly cheap because there were four of them.

When they reached Los Angeles, they had four days there. They posted the car for sale on carguru.com, and sold it in 24 hours (private sale). That same website had online resources to complete all necessary paperwork.

They sold it for the same amount that they paid for it, and they had had no repair or breakdown costs. Fuel was essentially their only cost. To rent a vehicle would have cost at least $4,500, including a hefty one-way fee and the 18-19 age premiums.

So it’s nice to hear such tales from the frontier!

You need to pick the north or the south as that is all you have time for.

From Dublin and being younger and active, I would head to Kinsale, Mizen Head, Kenmare, Killarney, Dingle, Galway and call it a trip. Dingle Area for hike/bike/surf, so 3-5 days. But Nov will be damn cold. Dress and be prepared. Can be 60 mph winds off the Atlantic...

I am here now in Galway, we went-

Dublin 1 night
Kinsale 2 nights (can be 1)
Kenmare 1 night
Dingle 2 nights
Galway 2 nights
Dublin 1 night

We have 1400KM on the car, and stil have to drive 230KM to Dublin. Gas will be $150 TTL...FYI
But that is a petrol VW POLO, get a Diesel, much better fuel mileage and cheaper cost by 20%...

Fantastic trip.

I have found:

Both budget travellers and luxury lovers will find a cruise the most affordable way to travel. Costs of sole Yangtze River Cruises vary between 500 and 700 USD

https://www.travelchinaguide.com/cruise/tips/cost.htm

It's not writtem if this price is for the foreigners.
When I asked some local agencies I got offers from 700-900 USD per person in the private cabin.

Yes, the stuff sold in the two big supermarket chains is universally awful. But Farmers Markets are huge here and I, along with many others, visit mine every weekend for freshly picked seasonal produce.

Cities like Pushkar, Rishikesh, and Varanasi are unique, because there are so many tourists.

And therefore can provide tourists with ‘safety in numbers’ yet another poster does discourage from going to small town Pushkar.

I wouldn’t go to Pushkar (or Rajasthan) .. but for solo female novice it is as good as anywhere and given the lawlessness of Uttar Pradesh probably safer than being lost in big city Varanasi.

one female solo traveler from Spain. She was quite distressed about an encounter at her guesthouse. The manager was showing her a lot of attention. They shared beers and smoked together…………

Not smart.

I have heard that there might be problems if you plan to travel as a solo female traveller to Israel. Any experience? I also have a few Dubai stamps and one Indonesian stamp in my passport. I called the embassy but they just told me that they might let me enter but maybe not ...
