Good 3-temple mini-adventure near the city. Walk/cycle/tuktuk to Suan Dok Gate and out to Suan Dok temple. They do "Monk Chat" in the evenings. Further out Suthep road then left to above-mentioned Wat Umong the "forest temple" which also has Monk Chat at least once per week next to a fish pond. Out past the end of Suthep road find the "Monk's Trail" to Wat Pha Lat another peaceful forest temple well worth the extra effort. After all that hard work check out the Galare Restaurant also next to a fish pond with nice intimate views over the city.

Hey guys I was wondering if any knew of any schools in Yangshuo currently teaching kung-fu? As far as I can see online most of the schools focus on tai chi and most of the ones that teach kung-fu appear to have shut down. Any info much appreciated!

Apart easiest, which is by car/taxi:

Bus to Mochit 2 Bus Terminal, then short ride in shuttle to BTS Mochit skytrain station at Chatuchak park. From there on ride on the skytrain to Ekkamai Eastern bus station for the bus to Ban Phe.
Problem with this route is only few direct buses K'buri to Morchit 2.

Much more frequent are buses to the Southern Bus station, but getting from there to Ekkamai is a bit more cumbersome, plus most of the town in between.
Either take a taxi all the way, between the two bus stations, or take a taxi to BTS Bang Wa skytrain station, the change trains at Siam Square station to Ekkamai. Advantage here should be that there should by any major traffic jam between the Southern Bus station and BTS Bang Wa (while taking the taxi all the way could get you stuck in traffic depending on route).

Leave early in the morning, that will be a long day of travel.

Going to be in Thailand from 12/27-1/9 and need help with planning my track. It will be two of us girls. We want to be around people, beach, nightlife and market shopping. Places where we can get affordable food, we are on a budget here. So far this is what i have booked:

12/27-12/30 Arrive at Phuket and hotel is booked
12/30-1/5 ???
1/5-1/9 Back to Bangkok.... still looking for a hotel

Our biggest gap is where to celebrate new years and if considering 2 nights each at Ko Phi Phi, Ko Lanta, and krabi then back to Phuket to fly out to Bangkok on 1/5/18 its realistic and fun itinerary? Also, are the ferrys to each island recommended to get in advance since i will be there for a holiday time?

PLEASE help a sistah!

It has been decades since I was there, but when I visited Pai in the 80s there was a lot of partying going on. Personally I didn't enjoy it for just that, but the scenery was gorgeous. On the other hand, many, many others still love the place. In hopes that still holds true, you could start in Chaing Mai, a good place to met other travelers. Explore the area around it. Then finish up in Pai for a few days to party before heading back to Bangkok and home. Or do the Mae Hong Son Loop finishing in Pai and then Chiang Mai. This last itinerary could be a bit rushed, but certainly possible in 16 days.

Or head south to the Andaman Coast and finish up on an island/beach in Krabi or Trang for party time, Koh Lanta might be a good choice, then back to Bangkok.

Hello! In a few months, I will be making my way to Vietnam to volunteer in Ho Chi Minh City for three months. I have been to Vietnam before, but all of my travels were south of DaLat. After my volunteer program is complete, I will be spending a month traveling around. I know that I want to visit Sapa, Hanoi, and HaLong Bay during that time. I am also interested in visiting Nam Du Island in the south. I have been to Phu Quoc before and have heard Nam Du is a great place to visit instead of going to the same place again. So, my question is what would you guys suggest as a travel route and would you choose planes, trains, or buses between each destination? Furthermore, I am also looking for some recommendations for things to do at each of these locations and places to stay that are on the cheaper end. If anyone has kayaked HaLong Bay before, I would really be interested in hearing about your experience and advice on what kayak tour to book with. By the way, I will be traveling from mid-August to mid-September to these locations. Thanks in advance!

What I’d like to do is be able to cross anywhere and get my evisa ahead of time.

This combination doesn't work. The e-visa is good only for the Bavet crossing on the main road beteeen Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh, and the VOA is not available at every border crossing. If you want maximum flexibility, apply for a standard visa the old fashioned way, in a consulate in a neighbouring country.

Realistically, though, you will end up on a bus from HCMC so don't spend too much time agonising over your options.

Okay yes I think Drake Bay is the place to be for your trip and needs. 3 nights is minimum IMO, but if you can plan a overnight at the San Pedrillo or Sirena Ranger Stations, that would be perfect with 4-5 days stay. No need for 6 days.

If you are going to Drake Bay, via ground/overland- here are you options.

There is Shuttle Osa that runs ( I hope still operating)from Jaco, Quepos, Dominical to Sierrpe, for boats to DB. The boats depart when full to some degree, but best to be there by 1;30, as that is about the last time one leaves, as its 1 hour down river to Pacific coast, then down the coast to DB, it then turns around and heads back with it being the last boat back to Sierrpe. Since it gest dark 530 ish...they need to get off the ocean by 4pm rule of thumb.

Or via bus, you would take a bus from SJ to Palmar Norte/Sur, direct, mornings mainly, thats 5 hours. From Palmar Norte/Sur, you would taxi hire to Sierrpe, for boats to DB.

Via local buses, you can bus from SJ to Quepos (Manaul Antonio) then bus to Dominical, then bus to Palmar Norte, then taxi hire to Sierrpe. The bus from Dominical to Palmar Norte can ket you off in Uvita/Bellena, Ojochal etc.

Ojochal is a nice Canada expat town with some of the best chefs and cafes in CR....its across road from beach access a good mile, but a nice stop option too, in addition to Uvita.

There nice eco lodges all over the Dominical/Uvita/Ojochal area above the Pacific.

Nicoya is lovely beaches, with many choices, keep in mind all the best areas and beaches are a 6 hour bus ride from San Jose. If you are near Liberia, then the best option is Tamarindo, this is a very touristy surf town with great food, dining, clubs, lounges and California meets Costa Rica scene...for better or worse.

For a more quaint setting, you have the classic Playa Samara, 2.5 hours south from Liberia, great little town and nice beaches for swimming, like Tamarindo.

Keep in mind most Pacific beaches are not too swimmer friendly due to rip tides and waves, better for surfing, like Nosora/Garza area.

Then you have the hard to reach, end of the road area of Mal Pais/Santa Teresa and Montezuma, which is not connected via road/transport to Samara, as you need to take the ferry/bus from Puntarenas, south of Canas and Liberia, to Tambor and on to Cabano and Mal Pais area.

You also can reach these areas via a water taxi, from south of Jaco, to Montezuma, then bus to Cobano and bus to Mal Pais.

Thanks so much Bigal1. I love your analogy, how long is a piece of string. Made me laugh! We do want to trek. I will take your advice to hire a taxi to Andung Teuk and then take the boat in to Chi Phat. Who doesn't love a good boat ride? And we will hire a taxi to take us to Battambang on our departure. Will you by chance be in Chi Phat Jan 21?
