It is rather an odd way to do business in that while all booking sites are in some ways parasitical none make it so very obvious.

I wish there was a like button , I couldn't put it better myself - 'all booking sites are parasitical'. I also remember someone at a basic bungalow operation on a small island in Malaysia saying - 'we no like online booking.... booking and then no come'

well not so much.

I mean it's business. Commissions might not be a bad thing if they increase your business.

Like if your occupancy goes from 50% to 90% after going online then you can happily pay commission.

the normal way to deal with this is to increase your profit margin, just as for example if you buy a loaf of bread in the supermarket in the UK the price of paying by card is already baked in.

the Asian way is sometimes to complain about fees or to charge a % payment fee. This just puts the customer off.

Hi, i’ll be in Indianapolis this week for work. My hotel is next to IND airport and my work is nearby too. Please recommend
1) What to do in Indy? I like museums, arts, city life, market, theatre, and shopping.
2) Places for food: Asian, Italian, seafood and steak with flexible budget.
Thanks!

I will be going to Costa Rica in Sept. 2020 - the Green Season. I want to travel through the country seeing the sights. What I am concerned about is lodging as I drive through the country. I am on a budget so I would like to know what kind of costs I should expect. I would really like to chat with someone who has spent like 12 days touring the country for advice on what I should do and see - especially in the Green Season.

Hello fellow travelers,
can we make boating trips in the Pantanal around 15 september (supposed to be dry season) or is it better to go in October. We would like to rent a car from Cuiaba ,driving to Porto Jofre, and stay for a few days .So the Transpantaneira must be dry to drive a rental car. And there must be enough water in the Pantanal for boating safari. We like to travel on a certain budget and have maximum freedom ,thats why we do it this way .Like to hear some usefull info.
Kind regards ,Gordo and Flacko from Belgium.

Going to Azerbaijan next month. Is 70 AZN (not including accomodation) per day a reasonable budget for Baku? For food (basically just dinner), some beers, museum and attractions entries and public transportation in Baku? I do not eat at high end restaurants or fine dining, I only want a hearty meal of the national cuisine at an average place, and breakfast is free at the hotel.

You don't need to stay in hostels except for some expensive places such as Phuket. The main form of budget accommodation in Thailand and SEA is guesthouses. You can also stay in bungalows on the islands. Simpler guesthouses and bungalows often operate on walk in basis and don't have a booking system.

Hello People!

I will be traveling with a friend to Peru and Ecuador on December 2019-

My plan till now if to go to Iquitos and have some tours in the Amazon there, then go down the Napo river to Coca, Ecuador.

At the moment I am trying to figure out what is the best place to visit the Amazon without getting broke. I read that accommodation in Yasuni national park cost hundreds of $ per night. This is definitely NOT something that I can do as we will be traveling on a budget. Also, I am wondering about the costs of the tours in the forest. I would like to spend 4-5 days deep in the jungle but again, can not spend 500+ $ for it.

Has anyone done this route and visited these places on a budget? Any information and tips regarding these areas would be much appreciated!!
