From what I remember we went arrived in Paske by bus from Thailand then went down to Don Det, then up to Vientiane - Vang Vieng - Luang Prabang, and then left by bus to Chang Mai. But we had no time limit.

So looking at your options I would do the Luang Prabang - Vang Vieng - Vientiane - Don Det route, but miss out Vientiane to give yourself more time.

How are you getting into Cambodia from Laos?

Hi!

We've decided to have our three-week honeymoon in southeast Asia and narrowed it down to just Thailand. We will be going in late December 2018 right before Christmas. I wanted to get people's thoughts on our current itinerary. To give you some background on us, we are couple in our mid-20s from Chicago who loves to travel, specifically we are very adventurous, love the outdoors and nature, love good food, and diving into local culture. We wanted our honeymoon to be a mixture of urban culture, jungle adventures, and relaxing beaches. We are not high-end, but would like to take the opportunity to have a mixture of luxurious and local experiences on our honeymoon. Below is our current itinerary. The one location I am indifferent about is Koh Tao (we wouldn't be going diving, but would definitely snorkel). Feel free to give any recommendations on the itinerary itself (too long/short of time, must-do activities, favorite resorts/hotels, etc). Also, any recommendations on Christmas Eve/Day and New Years Eve/Day celebrations would be great!

Day-Date-Location (Activities)
1 December 20 - Chicago
2 December 21 - Travel

I also did the trip 30 years ago. It was very cheap and I quite enjoyed it. Current price are obviously a lot more.

According to Travel Fish the public boat from Thaton to Chiang Rai costs 400 baht/person (departs 12:30 pm) and private hire of whole boat 2400 baht, takes around 2.5 or more depending on river levels. You don't say when your are going which would determine the water levels. Since you want to go the very next day, I would head to the pier as soon as you get to Thaton and see what you can arrange. Or, if you already have your accommodation in Thaton, you could call them and ask about arranging the trip. You could even try asking at a travel agent in Chiang Mai. The last two options will most likely cost a bit more, but it would give you peace of mind.

I don't know about private car hire from Chiang Mai. I would guess that it won't be cheap. Quotes I saw on line hovered around 2900 baht. I couldn't get a quote from Uber and don't have the Grab app.

Hi all,
so im moving to thailand (Chainat) this month and i have a question about internet.. im currently teaching English online and i need to make sure i have a good internet (relatively good) in order to do this... before i move into my apartment however im going to be doing a very small amount of travelling... ive already seen thailand many times, so not looking to go crazy. but would like to go to pai for a week.... but again, im going to be teaching english online and need to ensure i have good internet.

are there wifi boxes you can buy.. dont really want to rent the little wifi box because this works out as more expensive for me and i need internet for my apartment anyway.

Hi! I have travelled quite extensively but will be traveling to Ireland for the first time in early October. It is a quick trip I am taking with a friend and the main purpose is to get a little overview of the natural beauty of Ireland (not interested in big cities, although I will be flying into and out of Dublin, so planning a night at either end there). Based on the research I've done so far I have come up with this itinerary and I am open to any tips or advice you seasoned Ireland traveler's may have. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Dublin (night 1) - Kenmare (not afraid of this long driving day but would love to hear what you think the best route to take is) (night 2).
**Killarney National Park in the morning - First part of Ring of Kerry (overnight Port Magee - night 3).

Port Magee - Dingle (nights 4 and 5 - in between day, Dingle Peninsula).

Dingle - Cliffs of Moher (overnight somewhere in The Burren, suggestions please? - night 6).

The Burren - Dublin (night 7)

**I'm also wondering if we should spend the whole day in Killarney National Park, hiking, and then do the whole Ring of Kerry the next day.

Like I said any tips or advice are much appreciated!

Hey David

Tx alot for the answer. Chiang Mai sounds like a very good option. They are retired so they will visit when the weather is at its best...they don't like rain all that much:). Any area in Chiang Mai you can recommend. The budget per night is probably something around 200 USD. I guess that should give you a pretty nice house in Chiang Mai. Any particular day trips you can recommend?

How could it not be anything than good? You just condoned illegal wildlife trafficking, gambling, prostitution and other vices. If Mongla were developed into another version of Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai, it would be excellent news for everyone, especially the locals.

Obviously Mongla has a serious anti-foreigner attitude. Strange though, given that at no time in it's history have many foreigners passed through town. I'd be surprised if Mongla has ever seen more than about 100 foreigners in it's entire history. So I don't see why they act as they do. If it's for security reasons, that makes some sense. But that doesn't seem to be the case.

For what it’s worth I’ve never been ripped off in a taxi in Vietnam in two decades of visiting. And yes, that’s exclusively using mai Linh. Maybe we’ve been lucky, or maybe mai Linh is completely reputable, but we’ve only had exemplary service from them all across Vietnam.
