the Bayern-Ticket is not valid beyond the German/Austrian border at Mittenwald, i.e. you would need a separate onward ticket here. Salzburg itself, however, can be reached with a Bayern-Ticket from Munich, it is rather popular to do a daytrip this way. the Bayern-Ticket currently costs 25 Euro (+2 Euro if you buy it at a counter instead of online or vending machines). an important detail is that as a measure against fraud, users must put their name on the ticket.

Would the route be possible…

Hi, l’m flying to Santiago Chile to start a years travel around South America. Question? Do l need to show proof of onward travel i.e. a return / onward ticket to the Airline. At the start of my travels? I’m flying from London on a British Passport. Some up to date info would be very helpful thanks.

Certainly the van/bus is the only option if you want to book onward travel on the Thai side

Personally I would not book my travel on the Thai side as cost is usually vastly inflated and I have seen more than one irate traveler who finds that they have been conned and have no onward ticket. However having said this if you have booked through then you are given priority on the van to Trat and do not have to wait for a space on the minivan from the border

BTW. ..someone will probably chime in with the onward ticket' problem'.

It's possible that you will be asked to show a ticket out of Thailand, when you check in (e.g. in Dublin).

Some people have reported this. Many others are not asked (I have never been asked for proof of onward travel for Thailand).

Your choice...you can buy a cheap flight ticket out,to a neighbouring country, and then either use it or throw it away.

Or you can risk it and buy nothing. In that case,if they demand one at…

Up to the airlines if you need to supply proof of onward travel. Some ask for it, many don't.Only they can tell what their requirement is. Once you get to Thailand, Immigration in most cases don't care about it and just stamp you in on a visa exemption.
You could chance going to the airline without an onward ticket then if asked, jump online and buy a cheap ticket out of Thailand. Air Asia would be cheapest but work out where to beforehand. IIf you wanted to buy a refundable ticket, it would be…

United/Copa will not allow you to Check In for the flight to Panama, without a ticket out of Panama. A ticket out of Costa Rica does not count. You need proof of leaving the country you are flying into.

I was denied Check In/Boarding at Ohare. with a round trip ticket from ORD to Panama, and SJO/CR to ORD.

United/Copa is happy to sell you this ticket but dont mention the "onward travel" requirement.

Only 2 countries that I'm aware of is Costa Rica and Panama that "sometimes" asks/requires the onward ticket crap. Not sure about Belize, it's the airline that will check if required.

Not sure how economical the 4-6 month refundable ticket will be, better check on the fee's for cancellation, nothing is free.
Recommend you ask other travelers on border requirements when on the road, A bus ticket out will work in mot cases.

I am only suggesting that OP buys the ticket at Don Muang not that they travel from there

if I was not clear then sorry but assumed that once they had sorted the ticket they would then head off to wherever they might stay and catch the train from Hualampong or one of the other stations en route. Regardless of where they buy their ticket they will still have to find somewhere to stay. However in order to have the best chance of getting a seat for the next day this is by far the best option. In…

Have you considered finding a Expat Group in Panama on Facebook or Yahoo Groups?

What Passport do you hold?

You also need to be aware of the "Onward Travel" restrictions entering Costa Rica and Panama, meaning you need a flight, or a bus ticket, out of the country, you are about to enter.

No,no problem.

Most of the countries in the world have this as a theoretical possibility.Airlines sometimes try to impose it,as they are responsible if you are refused entry.

The South American countries won't enforce it (unless they don't like the look of you for some reason ;-)...people travel around overland there all the time, without onward tickets and without problems.
