Agree with Frankfurt. A better option than Amsterdam.
Have a nice trip.

But to be honest I live in Amsterdam, but Noord-Holland is one of my least favorite provinces to cycle in because of those flat open spaces and not all that much diversity or things to see,
I can understand and to a degree agree with this sentiment, but think it deserves a bit more nuance. North Holland is much more the quintessential Holland than the other provinces you mention. It's not that they are going to cycle there for years, they visit as tourists and want to see something of the country. Then North Holland is imho not a bad choice. It has historical towns with cheesemarket, the typical polder landscape with windmills and canals, bulbfields (wrong time of year), dunes, castles, etc etc.
Circling the province by heading north roughly along the Ijselmeer coast, then heading back south roughly along the North sea coast then crossing from Zandvoort east via Aalsmeer (flowermarket) to Naarden and then back to Landsmeer could imho result in a fairly diverse week of very easy cycling with plenty of sightseeing opportunities. For pure cycling the route may be too short for a week, but for easy cycling days combined with sightseeing it could be a nice trip. If they want a longer trip they might choose to add some of Utrecht province by adding Amersfoort or at least the more forested area between Amersfoort, Hilversum and Utrecht city.

I have two seperate days to spend in Amsterdam flying in out twice . I have done the tourist things there 35 years ago and imagine the place is just one big Tourist Amsterdam Disneyland by now . Can anyone suggest an alternative interesting way to spend my time there . Obviously I will want to visit a coffeeshop at some point and Id also like to get a taste of the real Holland away from the tourist crowds if possible . Any and all ideas welcome .

My husband and I are planning our honeymoon the end of April 2019 for 3 weeks.
We live in Western Canada and are flying into London to start and flying out of Amsterdam back home.Looking for help for the in between travel.

Hi all! I'm planning a travel to Berlin soon and this will be my first trip to the Schengen region. Hence I have some basic queries..!
I will follow this itinerary:
Onward: Bangalore - Amsterdam (layover) - Berlin
Return: Berlin - Paris (layover) - Mumbai (layover) - Bangalore
I've heard that the passport control would be there at entry and exit of the Schengen area only. So, does that mean that my passport would be stamped at Amsterdam and Paris respectively, even though I'm only transiting through these two airports, considering these to be the first and last Schengen points of my travel? Or will passport control be there at Berlin since I'm actually leaving the airport and staying only at Berlin..?
Moreover, when I'm returning to India, will passport control be there at Mumbai or Bangalore, considering I'm only transiting through Mumbai..?
Hello everyone,
This post is not just about Eastern Europe, but since LP forced me to pick a board, I thought I would give it to the East.
I am looking for suggestions on a city to visit in Europe for a few nights in October that:
- Is not anywhere on the British Isles (I live there)
- Is not in France, Spain, Portugal or Italy
- Is not further southeast than Croatia and Hungary
- Is not Amsterdam, Munich, Berlin, Hamburg, Vienna, Prague, Krakow or Budapest
- Is not famous for having terrible weather in October (I realise I have ruled out everywhere that is famous for having good weather in October already)
All I will add is that I like pretty things, I like history, I like craft beer bars, and I will be travelling solo.
Cheers!
I agree with Artemis' suggestion for the normal intercity to Antwerp and then an onward train. You can buy those tickets (fixed price) on the day of traveling. You could even get off the train in say - Rotterdam, explore there for a few hours, and get back on a later intercity to continue your journey. Your intercity ticket is valid all day (as opposed to Thalys tickets which tend to be for one specific time and train, unless you pay EVEN more for a flexible ticket).
Indeed, traffic jams can be terrible so if you go by bus you may lose lot more hours.
And no, flying is not a valid option at all unless you can afford a private helicopter.
But.... about the same travel time would get you to Paris (3:20 one-way). So why go through all the hassle for Bruges... a town that is not all that much more special than Haarlem (20 minutes from Amsterdam), Utrecht (25 min), Leiden (30 min), 's-Hertogenbosch (1 hour from Amsterdam), or medieval hansa town Deventer (just over 1 hour)... in my humble opinion.
I don't think Bruges is 'daytrip material'. If you are dead set on going there, then go for 2 days and combine it with lovely Ghent. 30 minutes by train from Bruges. And stay overnight in either of the two.
Ghent has a medieval castle in the center, gabled houses and canals, loads of quirky shops, good restaurants and cafes, a student vibe, and is not as overrun by tourists as Bruges is.

We are planning our 4 week trip to SEA with our then 2 year old daughter. What are you thinking about the below itinerary in terms of timing? (we are flying between Bangkok-ChiangMai-LuangPrabang-Hanoi-PhuQuoc). Due to our daughter we try to avoid staying at places 1 or 2 days only.
Not really sure yet about Nong Khiaw. Any insights in this stop or alternatives?
