For how many days ? NO beaches in the north, except in for some islands of Halong Bay (Cat Ba) and Bai Tu Long Bay
A good theater in Hanoi? Hanoi Cinematheque, which was located at 22A Hai Ba Trung street, Hoan Kiem district, was where a lot of impressive films were introduced. However, this building was heard to be demolished.
Hai irene..thank you for your feedback. Regarding my itinerary, will it be too packed and going around?any other places you can suggest to me?thank you
Thank you for the hints, but just like westwood said, we want to make more stops, rest and take pictures and especially see the Hai Van Pass so the bus is a bad choice for us :(
Hai Ls13!
however , the weather could not be guessed correctly .
Generally in Inonesia November is the beginning of the rainy season , I guess it would not be too bad .
The months that have heavy rains usually is December to March .
Found this Thong Nai Pan Wordpress site which gives a good summary of changes in recent years. Some excerpts -
(copied and pasted) - "The biggest news is that the road between Baantai Beach and Thong Nai Pan is completely finished. They have completed the last unconreted section, just before Than Sadet. What was once possibly the worst stretch of rtoad on the island is now the best. Indeed the first bits of the road (such as the big hill with the steep winding climb) are beginning to age and…
You can get a boat/bus ticket from your resort to Trang. From there, there (@ the big/new bus station) there are public minibuses to Surat Thani every hour.

Alternatively, you could go via bus to Hat Yai.
There is an airport at Trang. Check whether there are direct flights to Surat Thani or Ko Samui. Otherwise, check flights via Hat Yai as well as Bangkok.
It's going to be a very long day of travelling. If you do a boat/van combination you are looking at a 10 hour journey.
Your other option is to fly to Phuket from Hat Yai (it's still a 1.5 hour boat and 2 hour bus/car journey from Lipe) and then get on to another flight to Samui, then a ferry to Phangan. That's still going to take you around 6-7 hours, if the flights even line up ok. Or fly from Hat Yai/Trang to Bangkok and then down to Samui.
Yes, that is correct. Sorry, I forgot about cheapo travellers. But in 2008 even 4-star hotels were cheap (we stayed at Kandawgyi Palace for $55 a night for two people) so there was no need to slum it IMHO.
Most buses from Phitsanulok to Loei will also stop at Lom Sak (not Lam Sok) and Dan Sai. Have done by self-drive a few times and saw numerous long-distance buses along the way. Can't help with cheap guesthouses, but there are some semi-cheap hotels and "resorts" (bungalows) catering to seasonal Thai tourism (e.g. "Phi Ta Khon" ghost festival in Dan Sai).
