Dave, that link has been locked. Also, some of the comments about Apple Guest House were not quite correct as Apple II was mistaken for Apple Guest House, and Apple III Guest House was mistaken for Apple II.

Apple II is on Trok Kai Chae off Phra Sumen and Phra Athit (Trok Kai Chae is the address on their business card). Mama opened Apple Guest House back in the 80's, and Apple II in the old teak family home not long after. It was a real hold-out and changed very little between the time it…

If you're going to be in the North, instead of Flight of the Gibbons, I'd recommend crossing over into Laos at Chiang Khong/Huay Xai and booking with Gibbon Experience. I did it a few years ago and had a great time. After doing a bunch of research, it seemed the better of the two.

The hotel we have stayed in the last 3 times we have stayed in Bangkok has allowed us early check in without any charge, but as above it would have depended on them not being full. The only way you can absolutely guarantee is booking an extra night. I have never been able to sleep anyway so I drop my bags go for a walk and get something to eat so not really an issue if I couldn't check in. We have used the Rambuttri plaza. But the same as happened in Chiang Mai a couple of times coming off the…

My friend went to a kung fu retreat in Pai on a motorbike and never had any issues renting one in Chiang Mai. He doesn't have an international drivers license. But personally, I would recommend you having the right license to drive in Thailand, and have an insurance to avoid any hassle. But if you're only renting for a few days, I think it's fine to give it a go without a license. :)

Dear fellow travellers,

I read about the royal cremation ceremonies at the end of this month that will take place in Bangkok with regard to the late king from October 25-29. That is when I will arrive in Bangkok.

a) What are specific events worth seeing during this celebration? Someone has questioned safety during this time in Bangkok. Is that a valid concern? In short, would one be better off going elsewhere in Thailand during this time or to the contrary, is this something not to be missed.

Yep..always bring my trainers...then blag my way into a gym...some are very cheap + hotels will let you use theirs...for a small price if you are not staying there. Every gym has static bikes cross trainers running machines weight multi station trainers... few have my pain game ..concept2 rowing machine! Most have air con or fans....but 6 weeks back the hotel had neither... 40* is hot...real hot..take care.

  1. Book hotel in advance, believe me, you don't want to stress yourself where you would stay tonight.

  2. It would be hot everywhere.

  3. If you prefer more sight seeing, rent a van, it can accommodate up to 10 seats (but you can purchase a VIP with 7 seats which is more comfortable). The rental rate range between 2,000 - 3,000 per day plus gasoline/toll fee cost (driver already include).

  4. However, travel from BKK to Chiang Mai will take at least 7 hours on the road. And from Chiang Mai to Krabi to Samui…

Dont worry too much about getting lost moving from Hostel to hostel , your not really going to be that far away from transport options , weather its taxis , tuk tuks or motorbike taxis , almost everywhere in Thailand has those options but just make sure that the taxis put the meter on , or if they dont want to ( meter no work ) agree on a price beforehand , same goes with tuk tuks and motorbike taxis , also if their are more of you make sure its the price for the whole group and not per person :

This is great, I'm really tightening things up here! :)

Ok, so, in BKK the first time around I'm gonna do a chain hotel. Just connect directly by taxi from the airport. Thinking either the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort, or Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn. Something with a nice pool where we can drink over-priced poolside beverages. On our way out though, before going home, I'm really excited to try the Siamotif Boutique Hotel. Right on the river and more eclectic.

I'm…

I went by train once. Never again. I fly now and from Don Mueang have been in my hotel in Chiang Mai in 90 minutes.
