I even saw a list with the most hanted hotels... for Halloween !
I guess they make those just to show us nice pictures and to tell us good stories !
For Tour to Halong Bay + CatBa Island + Lan Ha Bay you can take 3 days trip. You will have one night on boat and one night at hotel or Bungalow in Cat Ba.
For this tour you also can visit Suprising Cave the most beautiful cave in Halong Bay. I took itinerary as below with good price and enjoyed it.
Day 1: Hanoi - Halong Bay (L,D) - check in boat, enjoy seafood, visit Suprising cave, swiming, kayaking, overnight on boat
Day 2: Halong Bay - Catba Island (B,L,D) - visit peral farm, Lan Ha Bay…
I have spent 16 days visiting all that region from the Cambodian border (Chau Doc) to Saigon, except the coast. It is interesting but it becomes monotonous after a while : flat, with only rivers, channels, islands, rice fields and orchards.
CHAU DOC
I started with the speed boat Phnom Penh-Chau Doc, a good way to go from Cambodia to Vietnam or vice-versa. Departure Phnom Penh 13:00, arrival Chau Doc 17:00 (from Vietnam to Cambodia : departure Chau Doc 7:30, arrival Phnom Penh 12:30). ATTENTION…
From Kuala Perlis, boats also run to Satun's port.
Yet another option is a bus from Penang/Butterworth to Hat Yai and another one to Satun from there.
Lan ha Bay boring ? Visit of fishing villages, kayaking, swimming, fishing, bicycling to the charming village of Viet Hai in Cat Ca Island, you call that "boring" ? + a magnificent scenery and much cleaner than Halong bay. Lan ha is perfect for 2 days and BTL, much farther north, for 3 days
I am a bit confused. Are you doing the rock climbing after your trip?
The nearest rail station to Ha Long is Hai Phong. You can get to Ha Long easily from there.
Hai Phong also has a domestic airport.
Here are my travel notes on the subject :
Phu Quoc is another proof that one should not listen to comments such as « too touristy, too expensive » ! Let’s say it right away, I loved it ! Beautiful island, locals very nice and quiet, mostly clean streets and beaches ; for those who think “too touristy”, miles of deserted beaches, and “too expensive”, every establishment from dormitories at 5$ a bed to duplex with private pool at … over 650$ a shot.
In addition to sea products and nuoc mam…

I guess you are talking about Hai-an road, where you can find murals, outdoor decorations, and bars.
Already add the pin in my google map (art, and college areas #6). According to your mentioned interests, make sure you pass by "art, and college areas #1, , Shennong Street" as well.
Tainan city is an alluvial plain. In the past, outside of Hai-an road, it was ocean. People did biz around the port (Hai-an Road)and sell the stock in the store where Shennong Street is located now. Day or night…
