Hi Larsay

Are the driver based in Ha giang or Hanoi? Because if they are based in Ha giang then would it be possible to have a trip like this? Would this make the trip less rush?

Day 1 (25th) : HG - Sa Phin - Lung Cu - Dong Van
Day 2 (26th) : Dong Van - Ma Pi Leng Pass - Meo Vac - Bao Lac
Day 3 (27th) : Bao Lac - Cao Bang
Day 4 (28th) : CB - Ban Gioc - Ba Be Lake
Day 5 (29th) : Ba Be Lake - Hanoi

Or do you recommend changing day 2 and 3
Day 2: Dong Van - Ma Pi Leng - Meo Vac
Day 3: Meo Vac - Bao Lac - Cao Bang

Also do you feel like the drives are all very long? Because I see a lot of people say that google maps time for drive is not accurate / too short.

Thanks!
Brian

Hi all,

I’m heading to Nepal for some trekking in April and am toying with starting my trip from Kolkata. Are there any private companies who offer jeep / car transfers from Kolkata to Kathmandu?

Thanks,

Josh

I just might. As much as I love curry, eating curry 3 times a day for my entire trip I may need a change.

Hi everyone,

I live and work in Honoulu, HI. I actuallly do love it here but working for the feds is not the best right now. I'm thinking of taking a sabbatical and spending some time writing and pursuing other hobbies. Shimla appears to be a great place to do it. If I love it, I may just retire early and settle down there:-)

I have a few questions:

  1. How is the air quality there? I know it's bad in most of India but the air quality index rated Shimla as good.
  2. Are there other retirees from the US and other countries? Although I don't want to live in a tourist trap, it would be nice to have some international exposure, beyond the tourists, especially as I have lived, traveled, and worked in over 30 countries.
  3. What is the quality of life there? Lots of activities? Art, music, culture. Or is it a more subdued vibe?
  4. I would probably want to teach at a university or college - any good ones there? I've heard about the institute for advanced studies, which sounds fascinating. I actually wouldn't mind teaching at a school either as a retirement gig.
  5. Any other thoughts generally re moving from Hawaii to Shimla?

Thanks,
Kamana

Hi.
I’m planing to make a 12days long cycling trip in Nova Scotia or in Scotland (starting in the second part of July) and would like to rent a touring bike or even better borrow it from you or somebody else.
In return I may lend you one of my two touring bikes, Merida Crossway and Specialized Sirrus Elite (which you may see on my profile).. My height is 185cm.
You are very welcome to be my guest in my home which is in the capital of Slovenia.. Best regards. Robin

Hi all!
We have a 3 continent trip lasting a year coming up and are looking into buying the latest Go Pro 6.
At the moment we already have snorkelling attachments (thank you Santa) and are planning on getting the Karma Grip.
I would love a drone too, the need for those professional zooming out shots is keeping me awake at night.
However it’s my first big trip and I can’t figure out if the risk of loss and theft is worth it. I don’t want to constantly be worrying about it and taking it everywhere as it’s a lot bigger and more conspicuous than just carrying the camera and the karma grip.
Has anyone ever seen or been someone who takes such equipment on backpacking trips? We will be in hostels the whole time so security will be an issue. As will be sleeping in dorms.
Is it worth the worry?
TIA
Rosie

Thanks Alex. I did not end up going through Lagos. I went the slightly northern route through Abeokuta, Ibadan etc. And yes, there is unrest here in Anglophone Cameroon. And as the following post pointed out RoC and DRC are two different Congos. I wont be going anywhere near the trouble in DRC but will experience Kinshasa.

I'm still hoping to hear from another traveller who has crossed that Gabon RoC border or who has any info that could help me out. Hope you are enjoying life in Lagos.

Depends what your interests are.
Day 1, land , lunch ,visit Dublin (museum, art gallery, guinness, whiskey, jail, park, sea, cathedrals, pubs etc) overnight.

Day 2 Collect car, drive to Kilkenny via Wicklow mountains, lots of small villages, ruins, hill walking, lakes. Overnight Dublin or stay in Kilkenny area.

Day 3 If you returned to Dublin drive north to Trim, Tara, Newgrange, Monasterboice for some pre and early Christian sites. If you overnighted in Co Kilkenny (doesn't have to be in the city) head south again to Co Waterford/Wexford. Castles, walks, mountains, sea. Overnight along the coast and return to Dublin in the morning but be aware that you may hit commuter traffic.
